Senior Boys Basketball

Darcy B, Alonzo R, Hunter A, Joshua P, Kade R, Lachlan R, Jack W, Jarred N and Kane P

Game 1 v Bacchus Marsh W 45/37

A great start to kick off the day.  Each team was reasonably matched, however we managed to keep a dozen point buffer for the majority of the game.  Jack N was dominant inside, ending up with 10 points, Kane P was aggressive, driving to the basket frequently to finish with 17 and Kade R rounded out the game with 7, demonstrating strong leadership skills.

Game 2 v Sunbury L 24/38

Sunbury were coming off a dominant victory against Alice M, however with 2 minutes to go in the 1st half we were only 4 points down, thanks to some strong team defence and solid rebounding. However, the depth of Sunbury was difficult to contain and they outscored us 24 to 14 from that point on and ran out a convincing 14 points winners.  Kane P was again our leading scorer with 11 points, Jack N solid with 6 points and Jack W had 4 after being elevated to the starting lineup.

Game 3 v Alice Miller L 30/32

Our final game was against our Macedon neighbours.  We ran out to a nice 14-10 lead in the first half, thanks to scoring contributions from 5 players.  However, we were getting out rebounded by a smaller Alice M, which was a concern.  In the second half, rebounding and defence let us down and we missed a number of critical baskets.  Another notable scoring performance from Kane P 8, with Alonzo R knocking down the last 4 points.  However this was not enough to get us over the line.

A great bunch of respectful and competitive boys, finishing in 3rd place in our pool.

Senior Girls Basketball

On Tuesday 14th June, the senior girls and boys basketball teams travelled to Melton and competed against other local secondary colleges.  It was a great day out for both teams, each winning at least one game, and unlucky to lose in others.  All games were competitive and played in great spirit. Congratulations to both teams.

Junior Girls Netball

On Tuesday the 7th of June the Year 7 and 8 boys and girls headed to Sunbury to complete in School Sports Victoria division netball. The year 7 girls played 4 games, winning all 4 and made it through to the next round. They will play in Altona on Wednesday the 22nd of June. The Year 8 girls played 3 games, the girls won 2 and lost 1 by only 2 points. Unfortunately, the girls did not make it through to the next round. The Year 7 & 8 boys played 2 games, winning one and losing the other. All teams did an amazing job on the day showing great teamwork and sportsmanship.

Write up from Olive P - Yr 7 Girls Netball Team

On Tuesday June 7th, GSC Year 7 girls netball team attended the District Netball Tournament in Sunbury. We took a team of 10 girls, and we were coached by Ms Matters. We played 4 games.

Our first game was against Melton. At first us girls we intimidated by their height and their warm-up performance, but once we started playing, we realised we were a strong team. The ending score ended up being 28-7.

Our next game was against Sunbury College. After playing our first game we gained a lot of confidence which helped us move smoothly along the court. The ending score was 25-8.

Our third game was against Straughton College. The defence in our third game was strong. The ball was able to make its way back down into the goal circle and help us get our final score 39-2.

Our fourth game was against Bacchus Marsh. Against Bacchus Marsh our final score 43-2 was able to be achieved by the strong attack and mid court and the defence being able to stop the goals down at the oppositions goal end.

The results have led us into the second round playing in Altona on Wednesday June 22nd. We are a strong team and I have the confidence that our abilities will be able to help us achieve the same success as we did in the first round in Sunbury.

Regional Cross Country

On the 16th of June, the Gisborne Secondary College Cross Country Team attended Brimbank Park, for the regional cross country championship. Despite the weather being cold and raining, getting progressively more challenging throughout the day, spirits were high and everyone was happy to back racing in 2022.

The 12/13-year-old girls went off first, followed by the boys. Due to the increasingly challenging weather conditions, while the 15-year-olds were racing in the pouring rain, officials decided to combine the 16 and 17-20-year-old races. By the time the boys finished their 5km, we were all grateful to be able to get onto the warm bus back to Gisborne.

Leaving Brimbank, we were able to reflect on what had been a highly successful day with 3 students claiming medals (Sienna Andrews 1st place and Ellie Kays 3rd in the 17–20-year-old girls; and, Charlotte Jackson 3rd place in the 16-year-old girls), and a total 9 students making it through to states! Well done Gisborne Secondary College on challenging but highly successful day at the track.
