VHAP Excursion to Melb Museum & IMAX

On Tuesday 21st June, 34 students selected from the Year 7 and 8 Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP) cohort at Gisborne Secondary College got the opportunity to go on an enrichment excursion to Melbourne Museum and the IMAX cinema in Carlton.

The students appreciated a varied mix of exhibitions including the; ‘Melbourne Story’, which explores the history of Melbourne and how it has grown and changed over time; ‘Dynamic Earth’, where students got to discover facts about the formation of crystals, encounter dinosaur fossils and learn from palaeontologists while handling real life relics; and the recently added ‘Open Horizons’ gallery, where they absorbed the cultural history and were presented with artifacts from Ancient Greece.

Following the museum everyone got to enjoy the spectacular ‘Asteroid Hunters’ 3D IMAX movie, which delved into the work astronomers, astrophysicists and space scientists do to both detect and prepare for the possibility of an asteroid strike on Earth.
