Milo's Birthday Surprise Party

PKM and PFL had such a fun day celebrating Milo’s Birthday Surprise Party! They spent time preparing and making party hats, placemats and labels for the treats brought in for the party. We had P is for popcorn, O is for oranges, R is for Rocky Road, S is for snakes plus so many more! We danced, played musical statues and sang Happy Birthday to Milo - there’s a video in here of that too!

Lamont Book Fair

At the end of Term 2 we had our Annual Book Fair, for the first time in two years  I am so excited to let you know that our total sales amount was $1,787, which means we have $536.10 to spend on books!! I want to give a big thank you to  all the families that visited the Book Fair in the last week of Term 2. We will use this money to purchase some of the 2022 shortlisted Book Week books.

Literacy Leader

Hello from our Sustainability Leaders

On Friday 15th July our Sustainability Leaders visited Prep KM to run a workshop about litter and what happens to our waterways when we don’t correctly dispose of rubbish. It was an informative and entertaining session and a great opportunity for our Sustainability Leaders to rehearse their speaking and listening skills. The Kingston Big Green Schools Sustainability Conference is on Friday 12th August and Alex, Oscar, Kara and Mia will be representing OLA at the event  and are very much looking forward to the experience. The students will be working on a special project over the coming months that will be presented in November. Stay tuned!

I had fun teaching the Preps about the ocean and sea life. The Preps already knew quite a lot about the sea animals and were eager to learn more. I taught the class about sea snail egg sacs which often wash up on the beach. I also spoke to the Preps about using metal straws instead of plastic straws because we should all be using more reusable products. Our beaches are full of single use plastics and we can all help to keep our waterways clean. Oscar

Last week the iSeaiCare Leaders and I were really excited as we went to one of the Prep classes to teach them about our oceans. The first activity was when we all took turns showing the Preps these picture cards of sea animals. I was surprised as most of them knew what they were and the type of species after a couple of hints. For example, they would tell me the proper name of the shark I was showing them and what it was carrying in its mouth. The next activity was Beachcombing where Kara and I taught the Preps about what was on the beach. We got the Preps to sit in a circle as they had to show everyone these three items which were a holdfast, a dead sea sponge, a plastic bottle and a shell with a hole in it caused by a sea snail. They all had pretty good guesses as to what they were and they were all interested in the texture and shape of items. The final activity was the food boxes, Oscar and Alex did this. They got the Preps to put their hands in a food box but instead of food it was plastic and rubbish. They told the Preps what they could use instead of plastic straws and balloons like metal straws and bubbles and I think they all had a good understanding as to how the rubbish ended up in the ocean. We all

had a great time teaching the Preps and it was really fun! Mia

Last week the four Sustainability Leaders went to Prep KM to teach thee class about the ocean and what we can do to help keep it clean.  I taught the kids about how to use bubbles instead of balloons at birthday parties and any other special occasions. I also taught the students about different types of seals. I felt really good teaching kids about my job as a leader and seeing their reactions to the questions and answers we gave them. Alex
