As the Semester draws to a close, the Marist College Ashgrove Music Department prepares for what will be an eventful second half of the year. The soon to be published Semester 2 Concert Calendar features some key events for the 2022 Calendar, including the Biennial “Blue & Gold Concert”, returning for the first time since 2018. This concert involves members of the wider College Community, celebrating the rich musical culture of the College and its community. If you are interested in participating in this event as a member of the choir or a musician, please see further information below. Semester Two will also see the return of the Essentially Ellington Down Under Festival, this national festival features workshops and mentoring for School Big Bands by members of New York’s Jazz at the Lincoln Centre. The College is honoured to hold the Brisbane Heat, hosting some of the world’s best jazz musicians in our very own Draney Theatre. We will also host our annual Soiree, farewelling our 2022 Senior Musicians at the conclusion of Term 3, along with the return of the Lunchtime Concert Series, this year featuring some international guest artists. Thanks to all those members of the College Community who have registered so far. A reminder that there is still the opportunity to do so; calling all Old Boys, Parents/Guardians, Siblings and Friends of the College - we are hoping to involve as many community members as we can. The Concert will be held in the Draney Theatre on the evening of Thursday 28 July (Week 3, Term 3). If you are an instrumentalist or vocalist and are interested in being involved please contact the Music Department via email music@marash.qld.edu.au
Congratulations to the 2022 Year 5 cohort, who commenced their instrumental performance journey last Thursday evening in the Draney Theatre. All boys are to be congratulated on their performance. We look forward to the continued development of our Year 5 students into next Semester.
On Thursday June 9th, the Marist College Ashgrove Chamber Choir sang as part of the local National Sorry Day Ceremony. This event is a mark of respect, apology and remembrance that commemorates the Stolen Generations & their families. Thanks to all boys and staff involved in this special community event.
We are proud to announce that Marist College Ashgrove Old Boy (2002), AJ Hall (Bass – Sahara Beck) will be performing at Glastonbury, England this week, with original artist Sahara Beck. Beck has been referred to by themusic.com.au as a “genre-challenging pop powerhouse (with) theatrical majesty”, along with a long list of accolades including multiple Queensland Music Awards and national tours. Congratulations to AJ Hall, Sahara Beck and the other members of her band on this achievement.
