Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School
Dear Primary Families,
As we come to the halfway point of our year together, I wanted to thank you for your valuable partnership this semester. I wish you and your families a safe and relaxing holiday break. Term 3 will commence for students on Tuesday 13 July. Families are reminded that boys are to wear winter uniform next term and to adhere to the College’s haircut expectations upon their return to school. Some key messages for the end of term can be found below.
This Friday morning all families will receive their son’s Semester 1Academic Report. I ask that you please take the opportunity to discuss your son’s report with him to celebrate the successes and set some aspirational goals for Semester 2.
Our dedicated teachers have spent considerable time to ensure that all reports are an accurate demonstration of our boys’ learning throughout the year. They have also provided specific and thorough feedback on each assessment task that I encourage you to read with your son.

This morning we presented our Primary Champagnat Awards to one boy in each class. The recipients of our Champagnat Awards are individuals who are recognised by the staff for doing their best to live out the qualities of Saint Marcellin Champagnat in and around our school. Congratulations to the following boys: Noah Watherston , Morgan Elphinston, Jimmy Corbett, Julian Bishop, Jimmy Stigter, Isaac Bell, Stirling McDonald, Henry Walker, Hunter Chan-Riotto, Jesse Walter.
Last Wednesday we celebrated our Primary School Mass in the College Chapel. Many thanks to all boys for their engagement in this special event and for Ashgrove Voices and the Music Department for leading our hymns.
Thank you to all the boy and staff for their participation in our Primary Athletics Carnival on Thursday. The day was a combination of competitive and fun activities where boys earned points for their team. Many thanks to Mr Lambourne and all the staff who ensured the day ran smoothly.
Congratulations to our Year 5 students who participated in the Band and Strings concert on Thursday evening. Thank you to our music staff for preparing the boys for this performance.
As the term comes to an end, we wish Mr Connolly all the best as he takes a well-deserved period of Long Service Leave for Term 3. We know his presence, energy and positive attitude will be missed during this time. Mr Matthew Jones (jonesm@marash.qld.edu.au) will be the Acting Primary Pastoral Leader during this time.
As we prepare to ‘wrap up’ what has been a very busy term, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our students on all their hard work and thank the teaching staff who have been tirelessly marking, providing feedback and preparing reports.
Parents will be able to access all assessment results and feedback from student assessments by the end of this week. This will be made available via Student Café and Parent Lounge. Please take the time to review this with your children as this will help establish important learning goals for next term.
On top of this feedback from individual assessments, parents can also expect to receive the Semester 1 reports this Friday. These will be made available to you through Parent Lounge and an email will be sent advising when this is available.
Please note that the reports will cover the following subjects for each year level:
Year 5 | Year 6 |
|
|
Students can expect to receive a pastoral comment from their child’s classroom teacher, an academic grade for each subject as well as a grade that reflects how they engage as a learner in each subject. Early next term, I will be speaking to all students about how they can use their academic grades from each subject to calculate their own GPA (Grade Point Average) scores. This can be used as a guide to track their overall learning progress.
For any further questions regarding reporting, please contact me at the following address: littlej@marash.qld.edu.au
The Uniform Shop will be shut from Tuesday 22 June to Thursday 7 July.

A wonderful day of participation and enjoyment for the MCA Primary boys. The novelty event included an obstacle course, tug-O-war, vortex javelin, frisbee, discus and long jump, with each boy striving to gain points for their class colour. Team spirit was displayed throughout the day with the boys chanting their colour war cries and the ‘Ashgrovina’ in full voice. The boys not only cheered home those in their colour but also supported those boys competing for Age Champion. Many boys got into the spirit of the day by dressing up, wearing face paint and wigs.
Congratulations to the 2021 Primary Athletics Age Champions.
