Rationale
Parents/Guardians are responsible for the collection of students from the College or College activities. The College must ensure parents/guardians are aware of the procedures to collect students during College hours and advised of the College’s supervision times while students wait to be collected.
Aim
- To ensure that Edgars Creek Secondary College has procedures in place for the safe collection of students from the College, both during and after normal College hours.
- To ensure there is little disruption to the students' learning.
- To ensure students are collected from school with valid reasons and there is an explanation recorded.
Implementation
Arranging for Student Collection (during College hours)
- Parents/Guardians are required to collect their child from the College or authorise a relative or friend to collect their child.
- Parents/Guardians must contact the College if they would like to authorise another relative or friend that is not recorded on the emergency contact list.
- If contacting the College via phone, parents/guardians must be prepared to satisfy proof of identity at the College’s request.
- The College must only allow students to be collected by their parents/guardians (subject to any specific court orders) or by a person who has been authorised by the Parents/guardians to pick up their child.
- If the College does not know the authorised person collecting the student, verification of identity using suitable photo identification (such as a driver’s licence) must be sighted and photocopied by College personnel.
- The College must record the details of when a student has been collected early, including the:
- date and time
- reason for the collection
- person who received the child
- Where a student is considered sufficiently mature (i.e. Year 10-12) to leave the College grounds independently, they are able to do so with a valid reason and the knowledge and consent of their parents in writing.
- Students are not allowed to be collected by siblings without consent from the parent/guardian.
- Parents/Guardians are required to notify the school if they need to collect their child during school hours. The preferred method of this is to send a note with your child or email the school directly at Edgars.creek.sc@education.vic.gov.au
- Student collection should occur between 10:40 - 11:00 and 12:45 - 1:30 except in the case of an emergency.
- Students should only be collected if absolutely necessary and documentation is provided from the parent regarding the reason for the absence. Reasons for collecting a student early include:
o Illness
o Medical Appointment
o Religious Celebration
o Family emergency
- Students should arrive at school on time each morning, if they are late they must have a note from their parents outlining the reason why they are late.
