SUCCESS STORIES

AUSTRALIAN JUNIOR TENNIS OPEN

Congratulations to Michelle Pits (Year 11) for competing in the Australian Junior Tennis Open. Michelle had to win two matches to qualify which were played in 45 degree heat.

For her first round in the tournament her opponent was the No 2 seed, Ivana Jorovic from Serbia and unfortunately Michelle lost 6-2, 6-3. But what a wonderful achievement to play in such a prestigious tournament.  We wish her continued success in the coming year.

CONGRATULATIONS!

On Monday night Lachlan Arneil (Year 8) has been named in the Victorian Under 15 Hockey team to play in Rockingham, Western Australia during the term one holidays.  It is a wonderful achievement considering Lachlan is thirteen years of age and was successful ahead of many older boys.  We wish him well for the upcoming tournament.

NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congratulations to Ryan Diep (Year 9) who recently represented Victoria in the East Coast Challenge which was played at the start of the year.  Well done Ryan on your achievement.

AUSTRALIAN VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Riley Parker (Year 11) has shown outstanding perseverance to win the Gold medal at the Australian Under 17 Beach Volleyball Championships in Adelaide over the summer break.

Riley was devastated just one year ago in the same competition after his dream run to an Australian title was cut short when his team lost the semi-final to a strong South Australian team. After a year of training Riley bounced back with his Maribyrnong College team mate to win the Gold medal match in convincing style against experienced Western Australian opposition.

This is Riley's second Australian Title after he captained the Victorian Under 17 team which won the Australian Indoor Volleyball Championships in mid-2013.

Fraser Rhind (Year 11) also represented Victoria in the event making the final eight team draw.

OUTSTANDING VCE PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS

We would like to congratulate two of our 2013 Year 12 Music students, Mitchell Price and Kim Stern, who have been chosen to perform at Top Acts which is an evening concert presenting outstanding VCE performing arts students who have completed VCE Drama, Theatre Studies, Music Performance, Music Investigation, VCE VET Music, Music Styles and Composition, Dance and VCE VET Dance. Their group also comprises Immy Chua, Peter Cho, Moran Zhou and Ashley Jansen. This is a wonderful honour and congratulations to both boys.

PINK STUMPS DAY!

Liam Adlington (Year 12) has organised with his local cricket club to raise money for the McGarth Foundation. Players at the Washington Park Cricket Club have added a splash of pink to a cricket game to be held at Packer Park on Saturday 22 February. Players are paying to play and there will be raffles and other fundraising events. Congratulations, Liam, for organising this event and we hope it raises a lot of money.

Donation of Hair

Mersades Kyrou (Year 7) decided to cut off her 40cm ponytail to donate to an organisation that makes wigs out of real hair for children who have lost theirs whilst undergoing cancer treatment. Mersades did this in memory of her beloved grandmother. What a perfect way to assist people in need!
