a word from our leaders

Mother's Day
As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s great to appreciate and honour the incredible significance of their role in families and society.
To all of our Mothers out there, we hope that you enjoy a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday with your families.
COVID-19 Updates
After tomorrow's media release from the Commonwealth Government, we assume our State Government will respond with a plan to wind back restrictions. Once informed, I look forward to developing and sharing Good Shepherd's pathway back to normality. Thank you for your patience. In the interim, please continue to observe all restrictions and advice previously published via our Updates.
I can report that our attendance numbers have essentially returned to normal with more than 96% of children at school. If your child is well and is not learning from home for health / vulnerability reasons, now is the time for him/her to return to school. There should be no expectation on teachers to provide 'home learning' based on adhoc decisions day-to-day regarding school / home attendance. Where there is a genuine need for part-time school attendance, please keep us informed and we would appreciate, if at all possible, forward notice of attendance patterns to support a continuity of learning for the children impacted.

COVIDSafe app
Hugely to its credit, Australia has managed the COVID-19 outbreak, so far, better than the vast majority of countries in the world. Australia and South Australia in particular, has set a remarkable example of strong leadership and community cooperation. There is much to be proud of up to this point.
Good Shepherd has thankfully been unaffected by forced school closure due to the virus, while others, including our Lutheran schools in the Barossa, have not been so fortunate. I applaud any effort to eradicate the disruptive effects of this virus on our way of life, including the smooth functioning of schools through the next stage of recovery.
The Government has released an app, COVIDSafe. This app lies behind a strategy to ensure that we deal swiftly with any further traces of the infection in the population, reducing the number of cases and fatalities.
If you have not done so already, I encourage you strongly to get behind the launch of this app. By doing so, we will limit the dire health impacts of the virus and support a faster return to some kind of normal life.
We all have opportunity to be a positive influence and increase the chances of achieving the 40% uptake needed to ensure the system works.
