Southern Metropolitan Regional Athletics

Patterson River Secondary College had 8 students complete at the Southern Metropolitan Region Athletics Carnival and were able to achieve some fantastic results. The first track competitor of the day was Year 7 Shkyiah Upson in the open age 3000m race. Shkyiah ran a great race against girls up to 5 years older than her, beating many home finishing 11th in the field.  Xander Iosefo ran a personal best time in the hurdles finishing in 7th position and Mali Goggin was extremely unlucky not to medal in the 400m dash, finishing 0.02 seconds behind the 3rd place athlete. Daniel Temkin had a fantastic day in the jumping pits winning silver in the U17’s Triple and Long Jumps beating his PB in both events, but was unable to add to medal collection in the 1500M race. Charlotte Baker narrowly missed medals in both the Triple and Long Jump events finishing 5th and 6th respectively. Isabella May was another student unlucky not to medal and finished 4th in the U13 Discus. The McKenna siblings Rhys and Ayden excelled in the Javelin winning gold medals in their respective age groups by large margins qualifying for the Victorian State Finals on Monday 22nd of October.  The highlight of the day was the community spirit shown by the students, watching each other’s events and applauding great performances from other competitors.

Well done to all that competed.
