2020 Course Selection For Year 10’s

Course submission day went very well, 160 students and their parents attended and entered their preferred courses for 2020 and a further 20, who were unable to be present, having submitted theirs prior.

However, there are some outstanding matters for some students that do need following up. Mostly these relate to completing the VETis enrolments for TEC.

  • Students (and parents) need to be on the look-out for any communications from the TEC or from Graeme Crosbie detailing if there are things missing from a TAFE enrolment form.
  • The most common missed requirement is supplying their USI (Unique Student Identifier). This needs to be done online and then sent to either the TEC or to Graeme Crosbie who will forward it to TAFE.
  • All students applying for VETis Health, Education Support, Community Services and Early Childhood Education and Care need to complete an online application form in addition to the hard copy paper one
  • Those completing a VETis through the TEC need to ensure that they have received their letter explaining the payment of fees. These fees must be paid to Wanganui Park’s main office. Please feel free to contact Chris Wardle on 58209900 to arrange a payment plan, if you require, for the fees to be paid in full by Wednesday 20th November.

Students who have not submitted course preferences for next year need to ensure they do so in the next couple of days.

For further details contact Graeme Crosbie (College Careers practitioner) or Greg Bristol (VCE/VCAL co-ordinator)

Parents As Coaches Program

Would you like to help your child improve their results both in life and school?

With the tremendous parent response to both the Year 9 Career Interviews after the Morrisby Online Career testing and also the Year 10 Course Submission day we’ve seen that many parents are keen to find ways they can further support their child. Parenting is hard. How do you encourage without ‘nagging’. How do you generate discussions with our children about important things like career aspirations? What can you do to create those moments when you can have meaningful conversations about the future?

The Parent as Coach workshop assist parents make positive changes to their parenting style that will make a difference to the quality and level of support they offer their child or young person.

Parents will:-

• Review their current parenting experience

• Identify their vision for positive parenting

• Understand their parenting style

• Identify their key strengths

• Identify priority areas they want to work on

• Identify potential blockers to moving ahead

• Learn key coaching skills

• Design action steps to achieve their parenting vision.

We are piloting this program for current Wanganui Park parents, there is no cost but there are only limited spots available. It will run at the school on Thursday 10th October from 5:30pm.

The workshop will be facilitated by nationally accredited Coach Glenn Irvine. Glenn has been coaching young people in Years 9, 10, 11 & 12 for the past 15 years. Wanganui Park SC has been engaging Glenn to work with students in life and careers for over 10 years
