Netball Victoria School Championships

The Netball Victoria School Championships is a netball tournament held over three weeks.

Teams from all over Victoria compete on one of the 15 days and the team that finishes on top of the ladder at the end of each day progresses through to the Finals.

On Monday Trinity’s Senior, Intermediate A and Junior A sides travelled to Ballarat to play in their qualifying round of the Netball Victoria School Championships.

The Junior A and Intermediate sides were scheduled to play 8 games of netball each and our senior side was due to play 5 games.

All three teams faced strong competition against schools such as Loreto, Ballarat Grammar, Williamstown High School, Mercy Regional and Ballarat Clarendon.

The Senior girls produced great netball to defeat Moama Anglican Grammar 10 to 7 in their first game, but then Ballarat Grammar proved too strong defeating them in the second game. The girls bounced back and beat Loreto College before going down in their last two games in hard fought contests. The senior girls finished the day in fourth position on the ladder.

The Intermediate side began the day strongly, producing some excellent netball which moved them to the top of the ladder and they continued that form throughout the whole day. They won a crucial game against second placed Mercy Regional College late in the day to secure their top position and they finished the day with 8 wins and 0 losses. This is an incredibly strong netball team with a group of girls that are not only highly skilled, but also work exceptionally well as a team, which makes them very hard to beat.

The Junior side began their day with a comfortable win against Williamstown High School, but were then put to the test against Loreto in their second game. The girls worked hard to earn the win, which moved them in to top position. They continued winning throughout the day and after a full day of netball they had to win the last game to secure top position in their section. They fought through fatigue to beat Ballarat Grammar, which saw them finish in top position with 8 wins and 0 losses.

All of the Trinity girls displayed excellent skills throughout the day and the teamwork and resilience they showed over the day, while often only having 15 minutes in between each of their games was very impressive.

The Junior girls and Intermediate girls have progressed through to the Netball Victoria School Championships Finals at the State Netball and Hockey Centre. They will compete against other winning schools to determine the State Champions in each age group. The Intermediate girls compete on Tuesday, August 30 and the Juniors will be playing on Thursday, September 8.

We wish both teams luck for these days!
