VET HOSPITALITY

As part of the VET Kitchen Operations course being delivered at the Riverside Trade Training Centre, Dale Harvey of the Northern Mallee Local Learning Network (NMLLEN) was able to secure the opportunity for students to visit the Mildura Working Man’s Club.

Steve Banks, the CEO of the Club has over 25 years’ experience in the hospitality industry and addressed the students to lay out how he got into the industry and the amazing career pathways that come from hospitality.

Steve and his second-in-charge, Samantha take the students behind the bar.

Katie, Paige and Dominic enjoy a cool drink.

The group was shown the bar and restaurant, the administration side of the business and even took a trip into the cellar of the Club – a very rare thing for visitors to be shown.

The students were then addressed by the head chef who told them about his journey from starting as a kitchen hand to working his way up to be head chef in European restaurants and resorts the world over.

Maya and Max decide what to drink.

A big thank you to Dale Harvey and the NMLLEN, to Kitchen Operations Instructor Haydn Collins, and to Steve and Samantha for the opportunity to see the industry first-hand.

St Joseph’s College is looking forward to bringing special industry speakers and arranging for industry visits for our Kitchen Operations, Beauty, Make-Up and Salon students in the future.
