Fluency in Math

In Grade 1/2 we have been learning ways to keep up our fluency with number facts and number patterns. Mathematical fluency is the ability to quickly and accurately recall mathematical facts and concepts, apply operations and make estimations. We have been learning new games to help this skill.

One of our new favourites is called 'Salute'. If you would like to practise playing these games at home, please ask your child or check out the link below to learn!

You will need a deck of cards, 3 people and your math brains!

When the Dinosaurs came to school!

Our Integrated Studies unit this term is 'History - Chronology - How things have changes over time'. As part of the Department of Education & Training - Positive Start funding. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Foki from Museums Victoria, who brought with him a some huge dinosaur bones from a triceratops, the skull of a Muttaburrasuarus that was found in Australia, and other incredible fossils. The most popular fossil with the students was the fossilised dinosaur poop!

The students engaged in an interactive presentation before exploring a range of stations set up with hands on experiences to investigate the fossils. We then completed some writing activities and reflected on the dino visit. These dinosaurs were around 65 million years ago and students discussed how much the Earth has changed since then. We are all very thankful that dinosaurs are now extinct after seeing a life size image of a carnivorous amphibian called Koolasuchus cleelandi. The 125-million-year-old monster amphibian has been chosen as Victoria’s fossil emblem.
