Around the College
Youth Campfire
Last month two of our students attended the Youth Campfire event, which was an opportunity for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in the eastern suburbs to connect.
On Thursday 28th July we attended a Youth Campfire at Forrest Hill College where we met lots of Indigenous students from the area. We did a smoking ceremony at the start and had a lunch break where we got to meet others. We then had the opportunity to hear from Eddie Betts, who spoke about the importance of education, his experiences with racism and his journey to get where he is.
It was exciting to meet Eddie Betts and have the chance to speak with other students and identify common challenges and share common experiences. We spoke about holding more regular events like this with the support of the KESO team and the local schools.
