Careers Expo
Wednesday 27th July
After two years of the Career Expo Day being held online, Career Expo Day 2022 was hosted on campus and senior students were treated to a vast array of career information from a variety of sources. From Career Councilors, Tertiary Institutions, and Professionals from a range of industries, our senior students enjoyed a day of insight and advice.
The day started with an Assembly, where the students actively participated in career workshops. We heard from Tyson Day, from “Arrive and Thrive” who gave the students invaluable knowledge on Career Design, Networking, and the importance of building positive connections.
Students were also given tips on resumes, covering letters, and Online Professional etiquette. The students were able to put into practice the skills and knowledge gained in the career workshop.
A Day In The Life Of...
Students were given the opportunity to attend presentations from guest speakers involved in a wide range of industries. There were presentations from Trades and Apprenticeships, Vic Police, the Fashion Industry, Software, Careers in Sport, Engineering, Law, Youth Work, Early Childhood Education and Care, Podiatry, Allied Health, and Human Resource Management in Civil. Our professionals discussed their own career paths, any study they have taken, challenges they face, the opportunities available in their field, and what a typical day really looks like in their job.
Fact: Did you know that the Trades industry is the 3rd biggest (& fastest growing) industry in Australia? Supply in qualified trades people can't keep up with demand! And if you land yourself a job on the North East Link project, you've pretty much secured yourself work for he next 30 years. Matt from MAS Experience was very encouraging to our students who are considering a career in the Trades industry.
Course and study options opportunities were also offered to students in the afternoon by representatives from, Victorian Police, JMC Box Hill, Deakin, Latrobe, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne and the University of Melbourne. Information regarding course and the study options, as well as fees, scholarships, work placement opportunities, industry opportunities and cadetships. Students were also given information to the plethora of all the various support services that each institution offers. Supports like sporting, social, and creative clubs as well as legal, accommodation and wellbeing services. Students were able to engage and ask questions of the representatives and get an insight into the day to day life of a tertiary student.
A special Careers Expo 2022 BBQ Lunch
After lunch, our students attended the DSC Subject Expo in David Perry Hall.
All this valuable insight and information put students in an ideal position to go ahead and look at future pathways and or choose subjects for their final years of education.
