Winter Magic Market

Winter Magic Market – Saturday August 6th, 1-7pm

Two weeks to go – only together can we make it happen

Volunteering for Winter Magic Market, many hands make light work.

Many hands make fun work where time flies. A list of volunteer spots is available on the volunteer roster and we’d love every family to do a shift.

You can put your name down for a shift on the volunteer roster. If the embedded link doesn't work please use. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bVgt2j-bvP3mYAYk5fFXKVJxGyIPO75TY15svxvBpN4/edit?usp=sharing

The same spreadsheet is where you can register for babysitting. It is only available to stall coordinators and those doing the later (4pm) or pack up shifts.

COVID safety – masks will be expected at all indoor activities

While much of the event will be outside, and where possible we will be putting in place social distancing reminders. However, we would ask families to be aware there is an expectation that you and your children will each wear a mask when going indoors. So please pack a mask so you can go to the Art Auction, Cake Stall, Book Stall or to get Hair feathers, glitter tattoos or to attend the disco. Boxes of masks will be placed around the entrances to these activities and we shall celebrate how caring you all are of others as we know this expectation will be met.

Market stalls – This year we will not be offering space to art and craft stalls. In previous years they have been a lovely addition and created a market atmosphere. But in order to be both COVID safe and to provide additional under cover/rain protected areas for school stall activities the multipurpose room will be used for the Cake/Treat stall, Art Auction and Art Bar this year. Our apologies to those who loved the stalls, we know they will be missed.

Things you can do now to help and other info

Decorations around the school

For simple but lovely decorations (and to support the post market long-term cubby building activities around the school) we have chosen for our WMM decorations to be branches. We would greatly appreciate donations of large branches/tree prunings you can find (if you could please collect them ready to bring in the week of the market it would be fabulous).

Art Auction items (Kim Pickburn, Jane Eckett, Sam Everton)

This year the art auction will be ‘live’, displayed across the art room and multipurpose room, but to reduce crowding all bidding will be done online through airauctioneer.com  We’ll also be offering kids’ artworks, made during art class in term 3, for sale (not auction) on the day.

Whether painting, drawing, sewing, photography or sculpture is your thing, we welcome any and all contributions to the art auction. Please drop it off at the school office, with a completed donor form (available from the office), or contact Jane Eckett (jleckett@unimelb.edu.au) to let her know what you plan to donate so she can prepare the online auction site. Bidding can begin online as soon as an item is listed, so the earlier you drop off the work the better!

WMM Secondhand Toy & Plant Stall!

We’d be so grateful if you could do a quick house rummage and donate any pre-loved quality used toys, puzzles, games, soft toys - even records & any vintage gold to the stall! We’re also offering plants & succulents for sale so green thumb donations VERY welcome - potted succulents, indoor plant clippings, small potted plants, herbs etc!

Ways we are reducing our environmental footprint of our WMM…. And we need your help! We need your help! - Please bring a water bottle for each of you - Bring a plate, cutlery, napkins and a wine glass if you can store it after use to take home with you to wash - When using the bins… Please check the signs carefully… you may want your cardboard plate to be recycled but if it has food on it, it can’t be so put it in the compost… if in doubt landfill it!

We are providing…- Compostable packaging for your food orders wherever possible- Food options that don’t require much cutlery - Minimal plates, cutlery, napkins etc handed out - Reusable glasses for drinks - Three types of bins … organics, comingle recycling and landfill

Let’s reduce our environmental footprint while still having a great afternoon

We want to avoid the stockpiles of Tupperware left at the end of the day so please pick up the containers you brought your donated treats in when you leave at the end of the day. Or come back the Sunday and please pick them up.

Child minding will be available for parents doing the 4-7pm and pack up shifts – This is a great way for parents of young kids to have fun at the market. Spend the first few hours supervising your kids then drop them off at babysitting so you can get to know some other parents while doing a volunteer shift. Sign up the same place as the volunteer roster. If the embedded link doesn't work please use. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bVgt2jbvP3mYAYk5fFXKVJxGyIPO75TY15svxvBpN4/edit?usp=sharing

Kindly sponsored by our OHSC program.

Books, Books Books – Clean out your bookcase for a good cause (Amelia Christo and Jess Borger)

The secondhand book stall is an absolute favourite for so many. Take the opportunity to clean out your bookcases and bring along books in good condition for the stall. Please drop of your unwanted books to the school office please.

Inflatables – Pre purchase your wrist bands here for $25 or $30 on the day. ($20 CSEF wrist bands available for eligible parents at the office)

We will have some fun inflatable activities (Meltdown, Wipe Out, Fire rescue on the oval and something special on the basketball court. On the day single ride tickets ($5) and wrist bands ($30) will be available. There will be 5 different activities. Four are suitable for smaller primary school aged children, three will be suitable for small or young children with parent support. If you are in the position to be able to, please consider making an additional donation to support other families buy a wristband. We try and make the market inclusive and acknowledge it can be an expensive day.

Musicians bring magic to the winter market

Live music is one of the highlights of the Winter Magic Market. There will be plenty of opportunities for the kids to perform as well. There are some great bands to look forward to.
