When assessing the applications, the following broad criteria will be addressed:

- The degree of relevance of the topic to the applicant personally

- Evidence of research into the topic (formal and non-formal)

- Evidence of originality of ideas

- Skill in getting a message across (both in the presentation and on interview)

The topic ‘What Central Australia and its History means to me’ is very broad to allow for a diversity of student knowledge and interests. However, some suggestions to focus on are:

▪ a Central Australian family history story - either from your own family or one you admire

▪ a Central Australian personality (or group of personalities) from the past who you admire eg sportsmen / women, business owners, people who have served the community, people involved in the arts

▪ a Central Australian location with a history that means something to you eg a house / building, a natural history site

▪ a special event held in Central Australia (either currently or in the past) which has a history that means something to you eg The Bangtail Muster, The Alice Springs Show

▪ an era in time in Central Australia which means something to you (or perhaps your family) eg the era in which your family first came to Central Australia, the WW2 era

▪ changes over time in Central Australia that have made a difference to your life (and that of your family) eg travel, communications

These suggestions are a guide only and applicants are encouraged to follow their own interests.
