Junior School

Sporting News

Thank you to Mr Luke Thompson for organising our participation in the SSWA Regional Soccer Competition.  We are so proud of our boys who represent us so proudly and brought home another trophy. The boys are competing in the State finals this evening and we all wish them the very best.  There will be no training before school on Wednesday this week.  On Thursday we have a JPSSA Bye, the Year 5/6 students will participate in a Winter Sports Carnival at Waterford.

Student 4-day weekend

Friday, 12 August is the Trinity College Catholic Day.  There will be no staff or students attending school on this day. Monday, 15 August is a staff development day.  This means our boys will enjoy a 4-day weekend which will be a nice break for our boys during this long stretch of winter weather!

Catholic Performing Arts Festival

The Catholic Performing Arts Festival and Angelico Arts Exhibition has commenced. This morning our Clarinet Trio and Cornet Ensembles performed.  The Junior String Ensemble and the other string groups will be performing during the week. Good luck to the boys.

Art

Further to our cultural news I would like to congratulate Michael Borman and Matteo Redolatti, both Year 6 White students, for being short-listed in the National Zart Art competition.  A fantastic achievement for these boys as this competition is nationwide.  Both boys will be awarded an art hamper from Zart Art valued at over $100.

Golden Heritage Visit

Every year, the Year 6s are visited by the Golden Heritage Club. The Golden Heritage Club are Old Boys of Trinity or CBC Terrace who left the College over 50 years ago.  Their visit took place today.  The Year 6s prepare questions for the Old Boys and then interview them. The Golden Heritage members always share wonderful stories with the boys of their school life. The members of the Golden Heritage are also invited to attend the Junior School TOBA Assembly. It is a fantastic day for all participants and our beloved Mr Torre presents one of our more significant assemblies.

Edmund Rice Day and India Fun Run

This year our annual Edmund Rice Day celebrations will take place on Friday, 19 August. In tradition, Junior School will be responsible for the hugely popular Cake Stall.  Families are asked to donate serving size cakes and cake stall items on the day.

Junior School boys will also join in the India Fun Run for the first time this year which will be during the celebrations.  Mrs Stewart has included information about sponsorship and other details in this week’s newsletter under Secondary School news.  Early next week sponsorship forms will also come home, and boys will be seeking sponsors to raise funds for the Orphanages Trinity College support in India.

The 2022 Angelico Art Exhibition

The Angelico Exhibition for Catholic Students is a prestigious annual event on the Catholic school Art calendar and was named after Blessed Fra Angelico, Patron before God of Artists.

In 2022 the Primary and Secondary Exhibitions will again combine to form the Angelico Exhibition. This exhibition showcases outstanding, artistic results from a range of Catholic students and schools across our State. These artworks will be on display at The Forrest Centre, 221 St George’s Terrace, Perth during office hours from Monday, 8 August – Friday, 26 August.

Da Vinci Decathlon

On Wednesday, the Year 5 and 6 GATE boys participated in an academic competition called the Da Vinci Decathlon, designed to challenge and stimulate the mind.

The 16 boys competed against more than 20 different schools, answering challenges from 10 different subjects, engineering, mathematics, chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, english, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy.

The day was split into three sessions with the subjects divided into each, all with a different time to complete. All boys participating helped where they could to get all 10 subjects finished in time. Students from all competing schools showed excellent effort and enjoyed the challenges throughout the day.

I am proud to announce that the Year 5s placed third in cartography and the Year 6s placed third in engineering and ideation. Well done to all those boys for representing Trinity College with a positive attitude and a big thank you to Ms Boe for her guidance in preparation during GATE classes and on the competition day.

Prefects Corner

By Matteo Redolatti (6W)  and Cameron Andrews  (6G)

On Monday, we were in for a squally, wintery week of weather and the local wildlife made the most of the increased wetlands around the school. We started off with our year group school photos and everyone was looking sharp and shiny. All the year groups were excited, especially the Years 6s, because we had our graduation photos. After the formalities of taking the sensible photo, the year 6s took great delight trying to pull the funniest faces. It took a while, but all junior classes managed to have their photos done by recess. At lunch some of the boys had sibling photos.

Also, this week, many of the students have been practicing tirelessly for the upcoming Catholic Performing Arts Festival. A huge thankyou to Mrs Clarke and all specialist music teachers for getting the boys confident and ready to perform. We can’t wait to blow the adjudicators away with our terrific songs and pieces.

Throughout this week, Mrs Spencer spoke to all the Junior classes about Book Week. Week five is the Book Fair and then Week six is the Book Week dress up day. This years’ Book Week theme is ‘Dreaming with your eyes open’. Start getting your costumes ready!

Wednesday started with early PSA sport training for the Year 5s and 6s, even though it was cold, wet, and the oval being very soggy. This did not stop boys training their hardest. Later on in the day, in the warmth of their classes, the Year 5’s had the Bishops Religious testing.

A wild weather trifecta of gale force winds, heavy rain, and boggy grounds fortunately subsided by Thursday afternoon. The clouds parted and the sun shone through on the TC spirit across all PSA sports and divisions, at our Waterford home ground. With grit and determination, we all gave our best against Hale.

First up on Friday, Year 6 green lead the Junior School Mass. It was a great opportunity to slow down and reflect on the week. Later that afternoon the Year 6s were treated with a special visit from the Golden Heritage Club (GHC) members. (This is an esteemed group of TOBA members who left Trinity College 50 or more years ago). It was so interesting to hear their reflections and memories of school life, of what has changed (e.g., buildings) and what has stayed the same (e.g., the school’s values). We appreciate the GHC members giving up their time to share with us their TC spirit and commitment to ‘men for others’.

After a busy week, we finished off with an inspirational TOBA Assembly, hosted by the legendary Peter Torre, in Gibney Hall. Mr Torre enthusiastically introduced the Year 4s to the unique Trinity traditions and explained the history of the TC crests. These assemblies are always the best! A big congratulations to all boys who received awards.

Hopefully, next week the sun will be shining!
