Packing a lunchbox

TCEC is asking for parent and carers help to curb our litter problem. We are seeking your assistance in how you pack your son’s lunchbox.

A large quantity of our litter problem is from gladwrap, snack packaging and food items. and we are calling on all our families to please consider other options when packing lunches.

Alternatives to this could include:

  • beeswax wraps
  • bulk buying and decanting into smaller containersstore bought sandwich containers. Our students are always very active, especially with P.E. and sports training. You could help contribute to the zero waste initiative by ensuring that they have a reusable water bottle instead of having a single use plastic bottle.

At the beginning of the year we did a rubbish audit with the year 7s and both staff and students were shocked by the amount of food being thrown away. We would love for you to have a conversation with your sons and discuss what they would like for their lunches. Perhaps you are packing apples as a snack but actually your son does not like apples, unfortunately these often end up thrown in the bin or on the ground untouched.
