2022 Whole School Concert- ‘Dancing Through the Century'

Friday 9th September 2022

Concert: Friday 9th September. Loyola College, Bundoora

Surnames A - K (5 pm - 6 pm)     Surnames L - Z  (7.30 pm - 8.30 pm)

Dear parents and carers,

We are delighted to announce that after two years of having to postpone concerts we are now hoping to proceed with our biennial whole school concert on Friday 9 September at Loyola College. Loyola College has a wonderful performing arts facility and is happy to support the school with holding our concert at their facility.

As part of the Victorian Curriculum’s Art domain, students will engage with dance elements, explore choreography and performance, and practise choreographic, technical and expressive skills.

This year we have integrated dance, expressive skills, and physical movement into our Physical Education program. As part of the Term Three PE lessons, students will be explicitly taught dance skills and routines. Students will build upon these skills each week in preparation for the whole school production. To provide our students with expert teaching of dance skills, we as a school have employed an external dance company - ‘Inner West Dance’ to teach and choreograph the performance.

The Victorian Arts curriculum (Dance) aims to develop students:

-body awareness and technical and expressive skills to communicate through movement confidently and creatively

-choreographic and performance skills and appreciation of their own and others’ dances

- aesthetic, artistic and cultural understandings of dance in past and contemporary context sits in relationship with other art forms and contributions to cultures and societies

-respect for and knowledge of dance's diverse purposes, traditions, histories and cultures by making and responding as active participants and informed audiences.

Our staff are working collaboratively to coordinate all the necessary materials for the concert, such as props, costumes, stage sets and the script. We welcome parent volunteers to join our production team. If you can spare some time, please email Matthew Vernal with your expression of interest as soon as possible.   mvernal@srprestonwest.catholic.edu.au

The school concert will be held on Friday 9th September and is a major event on our family calendar. Ticket sales have already been posted via the booking system, and we will continue to send out reminder emails for purchasing tickets.

Participation from all students is very important. Like any performance, every cast member matters. These memorable learning opportunities are the building blocks for your child’s whole development. A failure of parents to not support these initiatives may prevent your child from the positive experiences that concerts provide as well as developing their confidence, self-esteem, fitness and coordination. Therefore, every student is expected to participate and attend on the night. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent your child from attending this important event, the school will require an email to be sent to damianh@srprestonwest.catholic.edu.au

Please state the reason for your child’s absence in the email.

The following information provides the logistics needed to support and ensure a successful whole school event.

Drop Off Times

To prevent traffic congestion and ensure that the children are kept safe when being picked up and dropped off we ask all parents to allow enough time prior to your child’s performance. Teachers will be at the theatre doors to collect your child before their performance time.

We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to your child’s allocated show time. Entry will be via Grimshaw Street only, and Loyola College will have their own parking inspectors present.  NO ENTRY TO COLLEGE GROUNDS VIA BUNGAY STREET on Friday evening 9/9/22.  All audience cars and pedestrian traffic must only enter from Gate 1 on Grimshaw Street.

It is important that we continue to foster safe practices for the safety of all and we need to respect the protocols and processes put in place by Loyola College and the Inner West Dance Company.

Performance Allocation:

Due to the parking restrictions and residential noise compliance, Loyola College has set these performance times.

The school production will be performed twice in one night.

If your child’s surname begins with the letters A - K, they will perform in the first concert only (5 pm - 6 pm).

If your child’s surname begins with the letters L- Z, they will perform in the second concert only (7.30 pm - 8.30 pm)

The school will be providing some costume items for each child.  Below, you will find the required costume items for each homeroom that you will need to source for your child.
