Mr Mark Alexander, Sport and House Activities Co-ordinator

So far in 2021 we have seen a variety amount of sport being played at St John’s and it’s great to see so many students getting physically active and participating in the activities.

In Term 1 the school participated in the the House Aquatics Carnival at Doveton Pool. Delphinus house managed to get the overall win and many students showed off their swimming capabilities.

The following students were swim champions in their year levels:

Year 7: Ralph Buela and Emma Jorrissen

Year 8: Chris Strahan and Ashleigh Thatcher

Year 9: Anthony Fernandez and Abigail Cachart

Year 10: Kohan Dockrill and Kathy Ann Gugroop

Year 11: Eddy Li and Jasmine Koltai

Year 12: Aaron Li and Martina Dujic

Most of these students are also training hard as part of the SIS swim team. Training has been happening Tuesday mornings before school and Thursday afternoon after school. The squad are preparing for the swim carnival which will occur in the first week of Term 2 on April 21st at MSAC.

Also in Term 1 we have seen weekly sports been run as part of the SIS program. The sports have included:

  • Senior Girls Basketball coached by Ms Shantelle Wills
  • Senior Boys Indoor Cricket coached by Mr Mark Alexander
  • Senior Boys Soccer coached by Mr Mario Laing
  • Senior Girls Soccer coached by Ms Marina Kintzel
  • Intermediate Boys Handball coached by Mr Paul Boswell
  • Intermediate Girls Volleyball coached by Mr Rhett Joachim
  • Intermediate Boys Indoor Cricket coached by Mr Greg Van Es.

All teams have done a great deal of training and have seen some great results.

Special mention to the Senior Girls Soccer team who not only won the Championship Pennant from SIS but also went undefeated all season and had zero goals scored against them. An amazing effort.

Throughout term 1 St Johns has also hosted Athletics Carnivals for primary schools such as St Paul Apostle and Holy Family. This opportunity allowed the use of a our facilities to be used and will prepare us for the set up of our own Athletics Carnival which will occur week 2 of Term 2.

So with more sport on the horizon we look forward to further commitment and dedication from our students to get involved.
