Deputy Principal - Teaching and Learning

Dr Janine Biggin

It is very hard to believe that we are already at the end of our first term for 2021.  Being back on site has been wonderful, and I believe all teachers and students have been enjoying the return to what feels almost normal again.

I would like to take this opportunity to outline some key actions that will occur in Term 2, as we endeavour to provide as much support for students in the development of their learning skills.

One change that will occur in first semester is that our students from years 7 to 9 will have an expanded examination period.  In the past, we have had these students undertake examinations in English and Mathematics only.  This year, we will be offering a wider examination program, enabling our students to rehearse the skills necessary to review, study and produce written tasks under examination conditions.

I would once again like to remind families about the Study Skills Handbook, which the College has subscribed to for all students.  This has currently been used with our Year 12 students within their assemblies.  We have focused on the methods for reviewing work, emphasizing to the senior VCE students that this holiday period really should be used for reviewing work completed in Term 1.  The login and password for this Handbook is included within the newsletter, and I recommend to all parents to look at the handbook.  The login details appear later within this edition of the newsletter.

With our Year 12 students, we have also looked at ATAR scores and the Study Scores that are required to achieve certain total ATARs.  It is important that students keep their end goal in mind.  We will continue to focus on all aspects of study with our senior students, and will also be working with our Year 11 students to undertake some preparation for their studies as they move into preparing for examinations.

I do look forward to Term 2, where we hope to have the opportunity to enable our students to once again engage in further excursions in support of their learning.

As we enter our term 1 break, I would like to wish all students and their families a safe and happy holiday period.
