A Message from the Principal

Curriculum Day

Last Friday our staff used the time provided by our Curriculum Day to learn more about professional learning teams (PLTs). PLTs are a core part of our school improvement plan and they enable teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student outcomes in the classroom and across the whole school. On Friday, teacher teams looked deeply at student work examples, analysed the skills and knowledge the work demonstrated, determined the next level of learning and designed, delivered and evaluated model lessons. This follows the Department of Education, Framework for Improving Student  Outcomes (FISO) cycle (see below).

Teachers will continue to meet every week in their PLTs applying the learning they gained from the Curriculum Day.

School Review

This year, Melton Secondary College is undergoing a School Review. All state schools take part in a review every four years, and it’s a great opportunity to consult with our school community to identify what we are doing well, and what we can focus on to get even better at delivering learning to our students.

Our School Review is set to take place in June. Your child can expect to see Victorian Department of Education and Training staff around the college during this time, as they observe lessons and conduct interviews with staff and students. If your child is invited to be directly involved in our School Review, we will be in touch with further information closer to the date.

Work Experience

The Careers Team are pleased to report that during Work Experience Employer Visits and phone calls made to host employers, we received many positive comments about our student’s level of engagement in their work experience placements.

Year 10 student Ryan Borg undertook a 1 week Work Experience placement at Pel-Air Aviation.  Pel-Air are the owners of the air ambulance fleet that service Victoria and part of NSW.  Pel-Air employ engineers to maintain the aircrafts and Ryan was working within this team.  He loved the placement and has been very proactive in discussing possible career pathway options with them for when he completes Year 12 and is ready to pursues this career pathway in the aviation industry.

Kasey Husband undertook her Work Experience placement with a local hair salon called Little Critters. This salon caters predominantly for children and has an assortment of activities to keep little ones engaged whilst having their hair cut. This placement has been a wonderful experience for Kasey as it has reconfirmed to her the desired career pathway she would like to pursue.

Charlee Mowlam went to Melton South Community Centre for her week of Work Experience.  She loved her experience and fully engaged in the meaningful work being done by the centre.  Charlee engaged in activities including making telephone calls, setting up a visual display and handing out cookies for Mother’s Day to the many young mums that visit the centre.  Charlee also learnt how to do the accounts and various paperwork requirements. Charlee enjoyed distributing the Food Bank parcels to families in need and took pride in her role at the centre.

  • Jesse Netes – Employed as the Administrative Assistant at YPA Real Estate Melton (VCAL Class of 2020).

Remember that the MSC Pathways Team are based in the Library and always available for students to discuss career and post-compulsory pathways.

Athletics Day

Friday 30th April was the College Athletics Day. Some spirited House competition, complimented by brilliant sunshine made the day at the Melton Athletics Track a great success for athletes and spectators alike. A huge team effort by our Sports department (led by Gerard Darcy), staff and House Captains saw students competing on the track throughout the day with Yellow House - Pywheitjorrk - the eventual winners. Well done Yellow Team!
