Loving the Library @ MSC
Congratulations! To our Technician Matt who successfully acquired the position as a Library Manager at Kurunjang Secondary College for the remainder of 2021. You will be missed, though I am sure you are going to provide great leadership to your team.
Well done to our part time Technician Adele, the successful applicant for the full-time Technician role at MSC. The positive connection you have developed with students and staff in the library space reflect the STARR values we promote in the Library at MSC.
Student Library Assistant Program. Students can join the Student Library Assistant Program and have the opportunity to become part of the library team, this gives them an opportunity to gain work experience and learn new skills. They also get to meet new people, gain appreciation from students and teachers, take on responsibility, preview new books, and help with displays and promotions, whilst also being rewarded with STARR awards. Students progress through a module booklet and get the chance to experience borrowing out, returning and shelving books; helping people use the library; promoting the library and books; as well as creating displays. Upon successful completion of the program students receive acknowledgement in school publications such as the School Newsletter, get invited to an end of year Student Library Assistant morning tea, receive a Student Library Assistant Program Certificate and get awarded with a Student Library Assistant badge.
Bookmark Making
Bookmark making in the library during lunch is happening again! This term it will be on Thursdays. This gives students a chance to connect with each other, whilst having the opportunity to discuss different topics as they create masterpieces. Some of these great works are now on display in the Library. Students will be provided with art supplies during the workshop and during other breaks they are welcome to supplies at the library counter if they would like to work independently.
We continue to supplement our collection with new releases, curriculum-based topics and staff/student requests. Students can approach one of our team at any time for support in the library. The library is open from 8.30am – 4.30pm. Recess and lunchtime are for schoolwork, study or independent reading. Students may borrow 4 items on a fortnightly basis and are able to re-borrow if required. We will continue to collaborate with Melton City Libraries to extend the services offered to our students. Online Memberships will be introduced during class later in the term and will enable our students to use many different online services. We are very happy to continue supporting senior students in the Year 12 independent Quiet Study Room located in the library.
