Out and about with Mr Walsh - Easter Edition
Principal Report
It has been a massive term at Surfside with plenty of things to celebrate in and out of the classroom. I want to take an opportunity to thank all of our students, staff and families for all of their continued support throughout term 1 and adapting back to COVID normal way of life. We hope that all of our families have a safe and restful break and on behalf of Surfside Primary School we want to wish you all a Happy Easter.
It is with sadness and excitement that we farewell two Surfside staff members at the end of term 1 for the remainder of 2021.
Brenton Barnes is taking the plunge to embark on paternity leave and care for his beautiful daughter. This is a great opportunity as a dad and we wish Brenton all the best but we also know he will be sadly missed by the JLib, the saff and parents of Surfside. We now look forward to welcoming Mrs Anita Mock to the Surfside staff full time as the teacher for JLib for the reminder of the year. Mrs Mock has a lot of experience at Surfside and she will be a great asset to the team.
Katie Heenan has thoroughly enjoyed her return to the classroom following maternity leave but we are excited for Katie and her next journey as the Mental Health & Wellbeing Coordinator at Mossfiel Primary School in Hoppers Crossing. This is a great opportunity for Katie and enables her to continue to follow her passion in supporting the social and emotional supports of young people. We look forward to welcoming Mrs Diana Wright as a member of our Foundation team and will be a team teaching member in F2 for the remainder of the year.
Ryan Tolley, Cam Spark, Eva Urtone and Addison Lewis participated in the Western Region Swimming Championships at Kardinia Swimming Pool on Tuesday. The awesome foursome produced a fantastic effort in their 4x50m freestyle relay finishing 3rd and in their medley relay finishing 4th. This was an outstanding effort from this crew and a big thank you to the parents for their support on the day.
Belmont Common was bathed in sunshine as our Girls Football team participated in the division championships on Tuesday. Ms Hopkins was inspirational as coach and it was fantastic to see the girls achieve their personal goals on the football field throughout the day. The girls tackled hard and helped their team mates throughout the day. The girls were excited to play off in the 3rd place game and came away eventual winners after a strong defensive performance. Well done to all of the girls and thank you to our parent helpers and cheer squad throughout the day. Well done and thank you to Mr Cunningham for convening the day.
Sunshine was the recipe for success in a big sporting week this week and we our studnets were excited to head over to Kingston Park for our school Cross Country carnival. There were many personal bests and challenges and the kids thoroughly enjoyed making their way around the picturesque and challenging course. Our students were amazing and we are proud of their effort, regardless of results. A big thank you to all the wonderful staff and parents who were able to give up their valuable time to assist with the running of the event. Your help is greatly appreciated and valued by our students. The place getters in each age group are as follows

The end result was a close tussle and each performance definitely helped shape the results. Our Surfside Primary School Cross Country champions for 2021 are:
A big thank you to Mr Cunningham for his organisation and running of the day.
The peace of mind fundraiser was loads of fun. We were able to raise $1000 for the charity to support brain cancer research and treatment. We hope this contribution will make a difference to the organisation and those families affected by brain cancer. Thank you to all those families who gave the support to this fantastic cause. What a fun day!
