Mother's Day Breakfast

with special guest, past pupil, Amy Swanson

On Friday 7 May, mothers and mother figures were celebrated at the College's annual Mother’s Day Breakfast.

With the theme, ‘I am a strong woman because I was raised by a strong mother’, members of the College community reflected on the contributions that these courageous women had made in their lives.

Guest speaker, Dr Amy Swanson (Class of 1997), shared her story and her holistic approach in managing the health care needs of women through poignant stages of their reproductive life, being mindful of the emotional, physical and mental challenges these stages bring.

In 2019, Amy was nominated as a Past Pupil of Distinction. What an inspirational role model Amy is for the students of the College today. Here is a snippet of the journey she undertook to become a doctor.

'Amy completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in 2001 (Monash University, Melbourne), with majors in Drama and Theatre Studies, Psychology and Physiology.  Her academic achievements also include an Honours Degree in Female Reproduction (2002, Monash University, Melbourne) and dual scholarship funded research in Maternal Fetal Medicine (2003, Monash University, Melbourne).

Amy completed a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery Degree (Australian National University, Canberra) in 2007 with the sole purpose of specialising in Women’s Health (FRANZCOG, 2019).  Throughout her specialist training  (Eastern and Southern Health) Amy has published as first-author in the fields of Neonatology, Obstetrics and Paediatric Gynaecology.

Her particular area of interest is caring for pregnant women with complex medical conditions and/or fetal complications.  With a holistic approach, she also enjoys managing the health care needs of women through the poignant stages of reproductive life,  mindful of the emotional, physical and mental challenges these bring. Amy was raised (and is now raising her own family) on the Mornington Peninsula.  She is delighted to provide outstanding care to the women of her local community.' 1
