English

We have met lots of new ’sound friends’ this term. Our latest friends include Andy Ant and Poppy Princess! Now that Kindergarten have really focused on the sounds of m, s, t, a and now p, we have started blending words together. This helps us when we are writing and reading and Kindergarten’s confidence has taken off! In your Home Reading Diary there are some words using the sounds we know that your child should start to be able to blend together. Doing this at home would be great for their blending skills.

Maths

Last week we made patterns in Maths, particularly looking at colour and shape patterns that repeat in 2s and 3s. You wouldn’t believe that there are also patterns in the dances that we do for brain breaks and the songs we sing in Religion. We have gone a bit pattern mad in Kindergarten and we now can’t stop finding patterns around us! We hope you child is helping you find them all at home too!

This week in Maths we are learning to tell the time. At this point of kindergarten we are introducing language around the topic instead of looking at the hands on the clock. The language we have been using is: morning, afternoon, daytime and nighttime. We have been discussing how to tell what time of day it is and what activities you may do during that time of day. It would be great if families continued these conversations in their day-to-day conversations.

Religion

Sunday marked the start of Holy Week, a very important week in our Catholic community. With this we have been learning about the events that took place in Holy Week and incorporating lots of art, acting and sequencing to help us learn the story.

Geography

In Geography we have continued to learn about places. We have focused on how we care for places that we belong to. It appears we have some very helpful children in our class, with nearly everybody saying they vacuum and do the dishes regularly! We were even surprised to hear from some children that they look after our school by vacuuming it too!

PDHPE

In the last week we have had some great fun in PE. We have had a range of stations that the class have rotated between to work on their gross motor skills.

In PDH last week we were looking at photos of us as babies, toddlers and more recent photos. While looking at these photos we identified different ways our bodies have already changed. This helped us to think about the ways our body will continue to change as we get older. Just imagine what we will look like when we are 10!

Bus Excursion

Last fortnight Kindergarten were lucky enough to learn about how to be safe on the bus and in our community. When we left the school we all practiced our STOP, LOOK, LISTEN AND THINK before crossing the road and we made sure we held a partner’s hand. When we were getting on the bus we made sure to stand in a place where the bus driver could easily see us and waited for the doors to fully open. We had a great time on the bus while wearing our seatbelts across our bodies and staying in our seats.
