From the Principal Class Team

Punctuality
You may have noticed that we have been conducting a lateness blitz over the last few weeks.
Punctuality matters for a number of reasons:
Over the course of this term, we have had a continued focus on supporting students to attend school and classes on time. We would like to thank students and families for their work in ensuring that students are on time to each class. On time attendance will continue to be a focus throughout the year as it is essential to ensure student success. Why does being on time matter?
- When students are late it disrupts their learning, the teacher's teaching, and the learning of others. Being on time shows you have respect for other people and that you care as much about their time as your own
- It demonstrates students are diligent and dependable and care about their learning
- It indicates that students honour their commitments
- It is an important work and life behaviour setting students up to be successful in life after school.
Unfortunately, this term many of the students who arrived late were dropped off late by parents and family members. To change this, we need parent and family support to ensure that all children arrive at school no later than 8.45am. We understand that, at times, there will be things beyond your control that result in your child being late and if there is a genuine one-off reason please speak with your child’s Coordinator and let us know.
Being late just 10 minutes a day adds up to over 17 days of learning across 13 years of school.
The majority of lateness’s occur at the start of the day and this is where we need your help to make sure that:
- your child leaves home with plenty of time to arrive at school no later than 8:45am (classes start at 8:55am)
- you contact the school before 8:45am if your child is going to be late for school, and has a good reason for this
- your child is ready for school and learning each day with the correct books and equipment, uniform, and food for the day
and finally...
We wish all our students and families a happy and restful time over the holiday break and look forward to seeing you next term. We also wish Year 12 VCE students the best for their practice exams.
