From the Principal Class Team

Reporting Timeline Change
Due to the recent lockdown, Semester 1 reporting for Years 7 to 11 has pushed back to allow assessments to be completed. Reports will now be available in Week 2 of Term 2. There will be a Compass post when they are available. As always, if you have questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please contact the relevant Year Level coordinator.
Year 12 Unit 3 Practice exams
We will be running Unit 3 practice exams for all Year 12 VCE subjects during the Term 2 school holidays. These exams are designed to support students as they prepare for their final exams towards the end of the year. These exams are compulsory for all students doing a scored VCE Unit 3 subject and will reported on in the Term 3 progress reports. A timetable has been published on Compass for students and parents. Please contact the Senior Sub School if you have any questions.
Year 11 100 days of success
Congratulations to all Year 11 students for completing their first semester in the Senior Sub School. A celebratory assembly was held on Thursday 23 June. Students were encouraged to reflect on what they have achieved so far, and what they would like to achieve going forward. There were many awards presented to students showing consistent levels of effort, as well as high academic achievement in each class. The VET music groups provided the entertainment, and the event finished with celebratory snacks and a commemorative cookie. Well done to all! To view photos, please see the Senior Sub School Report in this newsletter.
Tutor Learning Initiative update
The State Government has provided the school with over $700,000 this year to implement a Literacy and Numeracy tutoring program for students affected by the lockdown in 2020. Our focus has been students in Years 7 to 10 who could benefit from support in Literacy or Numeracy, as well as VCE students in Maths, Chemistry, Physics and English. Students participating have found the program very useful, and early indications are that it is making a difference. Students for semester 2 have been selected based on learning data. New students to the program will be given a letter to give to their parents/guardians explaining the process.
Please contact Craig Jennings, Assistant Principal, if you have any questions.
Sexuality and consent education
As you would be aware, the State Government has mandated the teaching of informed consent as part of the sexuality teaching program at all schools. To ensure our compliance with this, a team consisting of the Health and PE Learning Area Coordinator, Learning Manager Coordinator, Sub School Leaders and the Student Wellbeing coordinator met to map out how we achieve this requirement.
The following is a summary of where sexuality and consent education is provided:
Year 7 Health and PE Puberty Unit.
Year 8 Learning Manager Program – Respectful Relations
Year 9 Health and PE Sexual Health unit
Year 10 Party Safe and Consent proactive program
Year 11 Consent program delivered by the School Nurse and CHASE
Year 12 Consent program delivered by the School Nurse
Any questions about this program should be directed to the relevant Sub School.
