From the Principal Class Team

Dear Parents and Guardians

At Year Level assemblies this week, we took time to reflect on and celebrate achievements and contributions.

Students in each class and year level were recognised for showing kindness to each other and for reflecting our school values, for their academic achievements and improvements, sporting and cultural successes; for their attendance and punctuality; and for their individual and collective contributions to our school community throughout the semester. It was a lovely way to finish the term, and a fitting acknowledgement of the wonderful young people we are so fortunate to work with. They are a credit to you, as parents and families; and we hope that you are as proud of them and of the efforts they are making as we are.

Thank you for the support you have given your children and us to ensure that they are successful, safe and empowered as learners and young people.

Farewells

Ms Barbara Slusarczyk, one of our Numeracy Tutors, and Librarian, Ms Betty-Lee Lewis, will both be leaving us at the end of this term. Barb and Betty-Lee have had such a positive impact on so many students here, especially in fostering confidence in and love of mathematics and reading.

On behalf of the School Council and staff, we thank each of them for their generous support of students and staff, and for sharing their expertise with us, and wish them well for their futures.

We also have some staff taking leave. Our best wishes to Tara Fuhrmeister, Liz Hedger, Lucy Honan and Isobel Issell for the remainder of the year; and to Jeka Kukulj and Rosemary Sirianni for Term 3. We hope you enjoy your breaks away from work.

MAC 50 Years

I will never forget the first MAC performance that I saw: 1999 Condition Wasted, in 1981. The show was written by staff and students and was about a post-apocalyptic world. It was truly spectacular in its themes, acting and singing, and in its creative staging.

Whether as participants or as spectators, MAC has had, throughout its just over 50 years, as enormous impact on the lives of so many students and staff, and on what they remember about St Albans Secondary College. So often, in talking with former students, their first question is, ‘Is MAC still going?’

Happily, it is as vibrant and strong as ever.

Next term, on Monday 19 July, we will celebrate 50 years of MAC. And we would love you to join us for a look back over the shows with some performances, memorabilia, and a chance to share your MAC memories with former cast and crew members. We would love to see you there.
