When students think about careers in law, the image that often comes to mind is a lawyer passionately arguing a case in court. Think Legally Blonde or The Castle.
Jobs in law are diverse, and it can be hard for students to get an accurate picture of the industry without access to real-life role models.
That’s where Ourschool’s Industry Insights series comes in. The live-stream Q&A on 1 June featured the following public high school grads from Ourschool partner schools who work in different areas of the law:
- Emma Berry, intellectual property & trade lawyer (Fountain Gate Secondary College alumni)
- Samuel Formica, family lawyer (Geelong High School alumni)
- Sanela Osmanovic, superannuation and financial services senior associate (North Geelong Secondary College alumni)
- Zoran Petric, Barrister at the Victorian Bar (McKinnon Secondary College alumni)
They spoke about their passions, school days, post-school pathways and what it’s really like to be a lawyer. Thank you to our speakers for generously giving their time to advise and encourage students across Ourschool’s 24 partner schools, including St Albans Secondary College
Thank you also to Slater and Gordon Lawyers, who sponsored the livestream, as well as their Practice Group Leader Manisha Blencowe, another guest speaker, and an alumni of Princes Hill Secondary College. Manisha provided a broad overview of career opportunities in the legal profession.
If you’re curious about a pathway into Law, check out this snapshot. This three-minute video gives you a quick glimpse of the one-hour Q&A. If you wish to view the Q&A in its entirety, please email me, Nicole, at alumni@stalbanssc.vic.edu.au and I’ll provide you with the link and password.
