Year 9 Spelling Bee – Wednesday 24th August 2016

Congratulations to Hannah of 9S (pictured above with Spell Master Mr Kelly) who won the Year 9 heat of the Spelling Bee on Wednesday 24th August.     Brooke  9A, Tyler 9G, and James 9s came second, third and fourth respectively.  Thank you also to the judges Ms Dight and Ms Sekula and Ms Dumbrell for providing special sound effects!  Congratulations to all the competitors for having the courage to compete and for being champion spellers in their classes.  The four winners now progress through to the Spelling Bee final which will be held in Term 4. 

Practice Exam for Year 12 English/EAL/Literature/English Language

On Wednesday 31st August we held a practice examination for all the English studies at year 12.  The invigilator was very impressed with the serious conduct of the students.  Most students tried their hardest and found this an invaluable exercise to guide their revision.  The papers will be marked by external assessors.

Year 8 Heat of the Wantirna College Spelling Bee 2016

Ms Dumbrell (Sounds Queen), Henry 8S (Winner), James (Spell Master), Mrs White,  and the judges including Mrs Plumridge and Mr Saccardo.

Congratulations to Henry of 8S for winning the Year 8 heat of the Wantirna College Spelling Bee held on Wednesday 7th September.  Some of the toughest words of the year were thrown at the competitors and they should be in a good place to compete in the finals in term 4.  Second prize of the heats went to Dain Yung of 8S, third prize to Andrew Jones of 8A and fourth prize to Sally Cheng of 8H.  Middle Years Captain James Cheam was a natural Spell Master and his fellow Captain Tahlia Umi was an invaluable organiser and photographer.  Ms Drumbell made a great job of doing sounds and the judges Mrs Plumridge and Mr Saccardo were also excellent at implementing the rules. 

Next term the top four from each team will compete in the theatre for the Spelling Bee Crown!
