Junior School House Music

Yes, it is back again!  House Music returns in 2020, with Berry, Laidlaw, Learmonth and Young Houses battling out for the House Music Cup.  The theme this year is ‘Food’.  Houses will all sing the same set song, ‘Food Glorious Food’ from the hit musical ‘Oliver’. They will also perform a second song which was selected earlier in the term.  The competition will be held on Monday, 9th September at 10.00am in the Refectory.

Prep Transition - 2020

The 2020 ‘Prep Transition’ brochures were mailed out this week.  The programme comprises one informal session (where the Prep teacher visits The Hamilton & Alexandra College Early Learning Centre) and four formal classroom visits for all students enrolled into Prep at the College for 2020.  Four sessions will take place on Thursday mornings (9.15am —10:00am) over the course of Term Four.  The fifth session is a full day session which is held as part of the Junior School Orientation Day programme.  Orientation sessions are designed to promote group work, and social interactions, as well as familiarisation of  learning spaces and the playground.

During our formal student session on Thursday, 31st October, parents are welcome to join the Head of Junior School for  coffee and a Question and Answer  session.   Our ‘Beginning School Together’ Information Session, on Thursday 7th November will provide parents with a further forum for asking  questions.

Piccino Group

This week has been a wonderful week of play and learning.  We have extended our work on zoo animals from our Art class into our daily curriculum, which has been a lot of fun.  As it is Book Week, we have been reading from our new selection of library books in our book nook.  On Thursday, we will dress in book character costume and join in the Junior School parade at 12:20pm.  Don’t forget to also bring in a book for The Great Book Swap on Thursday.  Friday is Daffodil day so children are requested to wear casual clothes with a touch of yellow and bring a gold coin donation, please.

Piccolo Group

This week we have been working on our contribution to the Junior School Art Show.  The Piccolo children collaborated on the design of a giraffe to add to the Giraffe enclosure.

Waste Reduction

The Early Learning Centre is focusing on waste reduction, and single use plastics in particular.  We are encouraging children to bring in as little rubbish as possible.  The main rubbish item in both groups is yogurt pouches.  As such we have been discussing with the children about bringing their yogurt in a reusable tub.  We have also been highlighting those lunchboxes which have no rubbish – and there are many of them too.  Please continue to collect your bread tags (for wheelchairs) and bottle tops (for limbs).  It is great that our Early Learning Centre is able to support the initiative of our Junior School SRC in sorting our rubbish and making a small difference.

Wellness Week

Remember that next week is Wellness Week

The KidsMatter / Red Cross team will be holding lots of fun activities, including House events.  See which House can get the most members involved across the week.

Our aim is for you to move, relax, think of others and join in.

There will be skipping, a three-legged race, lego building and a big game of dodgeball, to name a few.

Wear your pyjamas to school on Therapeutic Tuesday.  Think pjs, dressing gowns, slippers and bed hair.  A day to relax.

To finish the week there will be College Has Got Talent at 7pm at the Senior School. There are several Junior School acts so go along and support them if you can.
