Sports Report

Well done to the students who competed in the All Schools Victoria Athletics Championships on the weekend in Melbourne. This is a high-quality event and gives the students who have been training for their events since last term an indication of where they sit amongst the best in the state in their age groups.

In very wet conditions and on a flooded track both Magnus Howells and Indi Talay came 5th in their 200m heat with Indi setting a new PB. Lachlan Rees performed extremely well in his shot put coming 8th while in the long jump he finished 15th overall. Diamon Dickeson competed in the javelin and did an amazing job to beat her PB and finish 9th overall.

It won’t be long now until the swimming season starts and our new captains along with Mr Singh are planning on having some optional training sessions before the summer holidays to get the keen students interested and prepared for our Term 1 competitions. In other exciting swimming news and for those serious female swimmers in the school there will be new “racer style” bathers in the school navy blue and with the logo on them for purchase at the uniform shop in the coming weeks and early next year so I would encourage those girls to purchase for 2020 competitions.

Our students have the final Glenelg Division competitions coming up this week and next to finish off the year. There were many students trying out for the tennis team and Miss Budenberg will take these students on Friday to compete against the other schools while next Thursday in Portland is the annual triathlon event at Nunns beach.

Finally, I would like to promote the Hamilton Fun Run happening this Sunday morning  - 10th November - at the lake in Hamilton. I would love to see many of our College community down there competing in the various run/walk distances on offer. When you register please say you are representing the College. The U/14s have had an interrupted start to the season since their first games due to poor weather; however, the College Gold team played a catch-up match on the 24th of October against Hamilton and managed to register their second win of the season. Winning the toss and batting first, Gold put a total of 113 on the board from their 24 overs with Jock Barrie (27 ret no), Harry Austin (21), Fergus Peddie (17 ret no) and George Pern (21) all contributing strongly to the score. College then restricted Hamilton to a score of 93 in their bowling effort with Harry Austin, Charlie Whitehead and Tom Heazlewood taking a wicket each and bowling well.

The much-anticipated College Gold vs College Blue match commenced last Saturday, with College Blue holding the upper hand going into the second day. Winning the toss and sending Gold in on a damp morning, Blue bowled extremely well, keeping Gold to a modest total of 93. Standout performers for both teams were Ciaran Nelson who took 4 wickets for 10 runs in an exceptional display of medium pace bowling while Jack Austin made 34 in a solid effort with the bat.

The U/12’s season is well underway with all three teams having played 3 games. Consistent performers for College Blue have been Harry Mercer and Jack Mann while Tom Templeton and Will Bourke have been dominant for the College Eagles. Charlie Jarvis and Sam O’Sullivan have been solid with both bat and ball for College Gold. It is great to see so many young cricketers enjoying themselves every Wednesday night.
