The Lighthouse - 5s

2020!

The Lighthouse Keepers have made a wonderful start to the year. Despite the rather sweltering conditions, the children managed to keep their cool whilst exploring their new surrounds.

On our very first day at school the children dug up some potatoes from our garden bed and we decided it would be a good idea to turn them into chips. So, the following day we scrubbed the potatoes, cut them into chips and then fried them. After an AGONISING wait (of a few minutes) whilst they cooled down, we enjoyed eating them as a class.

We have been discussing our schedule and the different activities that we do during our days at school. We thought our daily schedule would be easier to read if we represented the words with some symbols. The children decided which symbol would best represent each activity, and then went about illustrating the schedule as well as laminating and cutting it out.

The Lighthouse children also had their very first French lesson for the school year, with Madame Suzanne. We got  to meet her right hand mouse- Sid, and the children were very helpful in pointing out Sid’s counting mistakes! Everyone was very courageous at having a go at speaking a few French words, even those who hadn’t done it before.
