Year Six

Dear Year Six Families,

We welcome you back to term three with the prospect of our Exhibition on the horizon. Students have settled in nicely to new Reading and Maths groups, as well as getting assigned sub-strands to investigate for their Year Six Exhibition.

Reading:

This semester, teachers have placed importance on Reading Conferences. Every Friday, students are working on their reading stamina to quietly read while teachers are sitting with individual students to take notes about their reading. This places importance on students to ensure they are reading every night for at least 30 mins.

In our fluid reading groups, students have been looking at author studies, including authors such as Dr Seuss and Mem Fox. It has been great for students to experience different teachers within their reading journey.

Writing:

In Writing, we have been looking at formal letters, to invite guests to our Exhibition. Students even sent letters to our local MP Tim Watts inviting him to come and experience our Exhibition.

Mathematics

To strengthen our students' problems solving abilities and critical thinking skills,  we have begun using the Launch, Explore, Discuss teaching model in Mathematics. On Mondays and Fridays, we will be using the new model and with our explicit teaching lessons Tuesday through Thursday. Our current Maths topic has been Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. We will continue to explore these topics over the next four weeks.

Exhibition

Our students have been beyond thrilled to begin their Year Six exhibition, with students brainstorming different ideas for the four sub-strands of our Transdisciplinary Theme 'Sharing the Planet'.  Students will then get placed into smaller collaborative groups of 3 or 4, where they will have agency over their learning and investigate something that impacts our world.

Parents and our community are invited to our Exhibition night on Wednesday the 6th of September 2023.

Reminders
