Principals Report
Principal Report
Welcome back for Term 3. I hope over the holidays some families had a chance to get away to somewhere a little warmer. This term gives our students an opportunity to consolidate on the learnings from the first half of the year and continue to make the most of all the opportunities that Belmont High has to offer.
At Belmont High School we will be celebrating our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. There will be one Student of the Month per year level, twice per term. Student reports will be used to create a shortlist for teachers to consider against the below criteria:
- Student shows exceptional application in class and overall effort towards their studies.
- Student has a positive attitude towards learning, their classes and the school.
- Student is always ready to learn by being in correct uniform, having all required materials and rarely needs to leave class.
- Student may show some leadership qualities in the classroom.
- Student’s academic performance is very good OR they have shown great growth in this area over time.
I’m pleased to announce the students of the month for June were:
Year 7 – Fern Knight (7Green)
Year 8 – Ibrahim Siddiqui (8 Purple)
Year 9 – Ruby Elshout (9 Silver)
Year 10 – Daniel O’Keefe (10 Gold)

Senior Band – Sydney International Music Festival.
Over the holiday period our Senior Band and Jazz Syndicate travelled to Sydney to take part in the 31st Australian International Music Festival. Our student performed at a range of iconic venues and even got to perform at the world-famous Sydney Opera House.
As we’ve come to expect our Senior band were spectacular and embodied the school values of Respect, Opportunity & Resilience. As a school we got to celebrate with the band at our assembly on Tuesday and I’m so proud of what these students have been able to achieve.
I’d like to acknowledge the work of Rose Humphrey, Amanda Linton & Emma Moffatt who gave up their holidays to ensure our students got to have this incredible experience. I know all the students and families are extremely grateful.
Sporting Success
I’d like to acknowledge the following students on some of their recent sporting success:
Poppy Nivarovich – Poppy recently competed at the State Cross country titles held at Yarra Valley racecourse. Poppy finished 6th which is an incredible achievement.
Tom Pearce – Tom was recently selected to represented Country Vic at the national U18 AFL carnival. Tom has had strong performance and we look forward to hopefully seeing his name read out come draft day later this year.
Cameron Richinni - Cameron has been selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming National Schools Swimming Championships. Cameron will head up to Sydney at the end of August to compete. We wish him all the best.
School for Student Leadership
On Sunday we had 5 of our Year 9 leaders head up to School for Student Leadership camp at Dinner Plain near Mount Hotham. Our amazing year 9 team consists of:
- Mali Martin
- Ruby Chapman
- Chloe Robertson
- Lachie Ricchini
- Hazem Ali
These students were selected after going through an application and interview process. This term they get to do school a little different, and experience one of Victoria’s most beautiful environments. Students will be working on a school project along with focussing their time on leadership development and outdoor experiences including; cross country skiing and overnight camps.
IN CLASS LOCKDOWN PRACTICE:
On Thursday 13th July 2023 at 10.20am, Belmont High School conducted a practice In Class Lockdown as part of our Emergency Management Plan. The Lockdown was extremely successful. Students and staff responded promptly, and the school moved efficiently into lockdown mode. It is very important for all people at school to know how to respond when they hear the Lockdown siren to ensure that we are all safe.
LifeChanger
This term, the Year 8 cohort will engage with the LifeChanger program. Belmont High School have worked with LifeChanger for the last 3 years and we have seen great benefit and positive outcomes that have strengthened our school community. Our year 9 cohort work with LifeChanger in term 4.
LifeChanger Foundation is a preventative mental health and wellbeing non-profit that empowers young people with the courage to thrive by developing their social, emotional and resilience skills. LifeChanger believes that many of the confronting challenges and alarming statistics that face today's youth are preventable through pre-emptive, early intervention programs that engage with youth, teachers, parents and local mentors. LifeChanger programs develop critical foundational skills that empower young people to develop the tools to successfully navigate life, overcome challenges and pursue their unlimited potential.
