VET@Barwon Club
In the last week of Term 2, we held two performance nights for VET Music students in Years 1 +2. All groups loved playing under the lights at the Barwon Club, showing some amazing stagecraft and dance moves! Many thanks to the Barwon Club for their support of live music in schools, and to Lee who managed sound across both days, to Adrian Montagnese for helping Year 2 students to be performance ready, to Megan McPherson for supervision, and to Rob Gador and the Sacred Heart VET students, who shared the spotlight with our students throughout the evening.
Senior Band and Jazz Syndicate travelled to Sydney to participate in the Australian International Music Festival, in the second week of the school holidays. The trip was so much fun for all, and students had a blast performing at the UNSW, the Maritime Museum, Angel Place Recital Centre and of course the Sydney Opera House, an experience none of us will ever forget!
This trip would not have been possible without the support of the whole BHS community. Thanks to Parents Association and Music Support Groups for their generous support, to John McKenzie for providing a bus to get us to and from the airport, to Highton Cellars for sponsoring our diesel costs, to parents who sent messages of support, and to those who cheered for us in the audience at our performances, and to all who bought chocolates in aid of the trip.
Many thanks to Amanda Linton and Emma Moffat for giving up a week of holidays to support the trip, and of course to the amazing, amazing, AMAZING students who played so well, Band captains who represented the group with such style and flair, and every student who represented BHS with such good spirit and who approached the whole trip with such a positive mindset. It was a blast from start to finish!!

One lucky group from Year 1 VET is participating in the ‘Come together’ festival, a FreeZa/QMF funded initiative, that sees one band from each of 11 participating schools come together to perform at the Queenscliff Town Hall on September 10th. Ahead of this, these students will take part in a two day songwriting and recording intensive hosted by APRA AMCOS’ Songmakers Program . https://songmakers.com.au This program will take place at Belmont High School, and we will welcome the 70 participants and their teachers for two days of creative collaboration!
