Principal Report
Our school is located on the land of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation.
Our production of Rock Bottom takes place next Monday July 24th and Tuesday July 25th.
We have the second of our weekend rehearsal this Sunday. The whole school rehearsal takes place on Monday at the Besen Centre.
We hope you have your tickets and look forward to seeing the culmination of all the hard work and dedication next week.
We have been using COMPASS for six months now, with everyone getting used to the newsfeed, adding absences, paying contributions and communicating. We want to give our community the opportunity to ask any questions they still have about COMPASS.
Take a few minutes to ask your questions - Ask a question about COMPASS
We are currently exploring the School documentation section of COMPASS. We aim to add a variety of documents to this section so you can go back and find them. There will be a link to the curriculum planners on the school website and we will also add any fundraising notices. We are also adding' how to' guides for the use of COMPASS in this section as well.
COMPASS menu when looking at the browser looks like this -
Click on the people which is the community menu and there will be a drop down box with an option for School documentation -
Clicking on the school documentation should enable you to access a variety of documents throughout the year.
Be sure to keep your COMPASS app updated, there is a new version coming shortly.
We are looking forward to our Winter Working Bee on Saturday July 29th from 9am to 1pm. We have a coffee cart onsite from 9-10am, we will also have a sausage sizzle later in the morning.
There are so many wonderful sections of our school garden which we will be able to work on. The ground is soft and the weeds are coming out easily. Use the QR code to let us know you are attending, then we can be sure to get enough sausages!
A great opportunity for a fun family activity on Saturday August 5th.
Thank you to Theresa and her family for supporting the school and enabling us to hold the event at Box Hill Tenpin Bowl, 1st Floor Healthways Recreation Centre in Mont Albert North.
Be sure to book in for one of the three sessions on offer:
Bowling night QR code - book via Trybooking.
A special thanks to Mackenzie and Ashley for the great NAIDOC Week event in the last week of term. It was wonderful to learn so much about your Torres Strait Island culture.
Would you like to have a conversation about what the right to learn looks like at Boroondara Park PS?
We are currently finalizing the date for this conversation and will send out an invitation via COMPASS.
At the start of this term our teachers will have revisited our Rights and Responsibilities with our students.
On Monday July 17th the staff explored the Mental Health Menu and resources available for us to use with our students. As explained in my last newsletter article the school will have two allocations of funds to use for student wellbeing and mental health in 2024.
The menu provides schools with opportunities to purchase evidence-based programs and initiatives across the three tiers of intervention. This includes initiatives that:
Menu items have been externally assessed for how well they support student mental health and wellbeing, ensuring schools have access to a range of evidence-based supports to meet their needs.
We also explored the Seven High Impact Wellbeing Strategies and made links with what we already do at BPPS. We will be further exploring these throughout the rest of 2023 and into 2024.
The Parents and Carers - Mental and Wellbeing Health Toolkit resources are available via the Department of Education website - Parents Mental Health Toolkit
A section you might like to explore is related to the promotion of mental health and wellbeing at home. It explores the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing for your child or teen’s healthy development and learning.
The individual NAPLAN reports arrived late this afternoon. They will be sent home early next week.
We will be providing details about the school results to the whole community in the coming weeks.
If you would like your child to participate in ICAS this year you have two weeks to register.
We offer students the opportunity to participate in English, Mathematics, Science and Digital Technologies.

Often we have conversations wth parents and carers about screen time. This link will take you to the eSafety commissioner website and provide resources, ideas and handouts about screen time.
The eSafety resources we have added into the newsletter this year are going to all be uploaded to the School documentation of COMPASS.
We will also keep adding resources to the newsletter this term.
