Assistant Principal

Laura Forster

We take pride in providing an array of opportunities to both explain and support students in their important decision making regarding the offerings available for our students as they enter the senior years of education with us here at LSC.  In the coming week the college will be holding a series of Information Evenings and Course Counselling sessions to assist students in their transition from Middle school to Senior school and the accompanying pathways available for a successful completion of the Secondary Senior Certificate.

There certainly has been a buzz around the introduction of the Vocational Major Pathway as part of the VCE Senior Program with many students expressing an interest to complete this new pathway. The Vocational Major replaces the older VCAL program and allows for added flexibility in combining additional opportunities for vocational learning. Here at the college, we are also delighted to continue to offer a huge breadth of VCE subjects to ensure that our students have the ability to access a study in their chosen fields of interest in preparation for university or future employment.

Shortly, Ms Bussell will provide information to our year 12 students in preparation for VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) applications for those of our students wanting to enter tertiary organisations. This application processes on behalf of all of the Tertiary providers, and enables students to submit one application for up to eight different courses and providers. Information on how to create a VTAC account and how to apply for specific courses will be the focus. Should you or your child have any further need for clarification about the VTAC process or other pathways questions please do not hesitate to call Ms Bussell at the College.

If you haven’t already, please have a look on Compass at your child’s latest semester one report. Congratulations to the many students who have worked so very hard and stepped up to the challenges of this year to once again reach for and successfully obtain such excellent results. Their dedication and consistent application of sustained effort are reflected in these.  As a senior school community, we celebrated these results in our Semester One Awards assembles held over the past week.  It was truly wonderful to see so many of our students excel in their achievements.

Throughout this year what is clearly evident is the continued commitment of all of our teaching and education support staff to ensure that, in spite of daily challenges some of which have been bought about by two years of interrupted learning, that our students do not miss out on the opportunities and support they need to be successful. We know that our year 12 students have only have the remainder of this term to complete Unit Four course work, followed with an opportunity to complete practice exams in preparation to their final exams to be completed during the September break.  Consequently, we know that for some of our students that sometimes this may trigger episodes of anxiety as time pressures increase. Please feel welcome to contact the wellbeing team or the senior school coordinators should you have any concerns. We understand the pressures that the final remaining weeks can have on some students, with the compounding demands of approaching exams, completing course work and thinking about a future beyond secondary school. We are here to support and assist in any way we are able.

As a senior school community, we are extremely proud of the combined efforts of our staff, students and families in making these final years of schooling as successful as possible. Please continue to reach out to the senior team if you require information or support for your teenager, or to discuss any concerns you may have.

Keep well,

Laura Forster.
