Across the four houses this year, it seemed extra special talent was needed!

In September, a most entertaining High School Assembly was held to share the entrants in this year’s House Dance competition. A wholly student-led activity, the House Captains worked hard alongside Dance students to plan and choreograph for their house team a routine with the theme of Fast Forward Rewind. Congratulations to Hodgkin House as Best of the Day for 2023!

An Eclectic Evening of Theatre

By Tammy Giblin (Teacher of IB Theatre & Head of Arts Faculty)

On Wednesday September 13, the seven Year 12 IB Theatre cohort shared their final major assessment with family and friends. This project asks students to select a theatre making theorist from throughout history and identify aspects of their approach to making theatre that resonate with them. After further research each student creates, writes and stages an original solo performance of up to 8 minutes. This year’s class undertook to showcase the theories of a wide range of theatre practitioners. Audiences were not only asked to enjoy viewing pieces but to also respond to some questions posed by each student to ascertain if their intentions had hit the mark. Audience members provided rich and thoughtful feedback for the class and this will supplement their written reflection on this solo theatre project.

Southern Dance Eisteddfod

The Friends’ School Clemes Years 11 & 12 group placed 1st in the Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfod in the All-Schools Education College section on Friday 6 July. They choreographed the piece as part of their TCE Dance course. It was a competitive section of College groups and the girls danced and represented the School beautifully.
