Child Safeguarding Themed Gatherings

During Week 7 of Term 3, and as part of Naitonal Child Protection Week, High School students participated in Child Safeguarding-focussed Gatherings. Quaker Advisor and Co-Head of High School, Lou Guidici, outlined what Child Safeguarding means, why it's important, the types of behaviour that are intolerable and the rights of every child to live in a safe environment, free from abuse and neglect. Lou mentioned that everyone who works at The Friends' School is committed to make sure that all children feel comfortable, feel cared for, feel safe, and are safe.

Students were then asked to reflect on what these conditions feel like and look like at school and were provided with some examples of people at school who they could turn to to raise a safety or wellbeing concern. Students then viewed a video of the High School Pscyhologists being interviewed and the support that they offer.

To close the Gathering, each students was provided a printed hand to write the name of five people (one on each finger) they could reach out to if they felt unsafe, worried, uncomfortabel or needed support. In the palm of these printed hands, they completed the following statements:

I know I feel safe at school because …..

If I have any worries or concerns I can…..
