From the Deputy Principal

  Mr Anthony Speranza

Dear families,

It was wonderful to see the children's faces today for the first time as I returned to school after being unwell. Thank you for the support from families and staff members. I trust that everyone had a good break. We have a bumper term ahead, so please check out the calendar dates and always stay abreast of this Newsletter and posts on Seesaw as they come.

Thank you to Catherine Le Hunt for inviting families to register for the Australian Mathematics Competition. If you are interested please see the note below. Congratulations also to our Year 6 Curriculum Leaders who together with Catherine Le Hunt organised a wonderful Maths Day at lunchtime on 16th June last term. More than 100 students turned up to the event, please check out some photos below.

Next week at our Grand Parents & Special Friends Mass, Father Jerome will bless our Student Representative Council badges and then at the conclusion of Mass these will be presented to our Semester Two SRC students.  Our SRC students play an important leadership role within the school and are active in representing and promoting student voice and agency in our community.  Together with the Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders we meet with our SRC representatives from Prep to Year 5 as they work hard to make our school even better.  We congratulate:

Our Maths Day, 16th June 2013

On the 16th June St Mary’s hosted a Maths Day!! It was held at lunch time. It was lots of fun and up to 110 children came along.  It was so much fun- there were maths games that were played and prizes that were won.  Each child who attended received a little Maths pack of dice and counters too.

We are already planning our next Maths Fun Day.

The Year 6 Curriculum leaders - Jack, Indie, Spencer and Bella were responsible for organizing, preparing, and leading this event and deserve congratulations for how successful it was. Before the event, their planning was well thought out, they worked well together and they all took on the role of letting each child in the school know what was happening. This included making posters, speaking at the assemblies, and speaking to each individual class too. At the event, Jack, Indie, Spencer and Bella were enthusiastic and very well organized, and welcoming to all of the students who attended.  Each of the four leaders during the preparation work and the event demonstrated leadership skills and attributes which were outstanding. Well done to St Mary’s Year Six Curriculum Leaders!

Mrs LeHunt - Mathematics Leader.
