Wellbeing

Welcome to our New Student Wellbeing Intern, Morgan Illi

My name is Morgan Ili and I am the Student Wellbeing Intern this term. I have a background playing college basketball in the US and am currently playing in the Big V women's league here in Melbourne. I hold a bachelor's degree in Psychology and am currently completing my cert IV in youth work. I have a strong passion for helping youth improve their mental wellbeing especially through the benefits of sport. I want to change the narrative of what it means to be ‘sporty’ and create ways to help all young women reap the rewards and life skills I have benefited so much from participating in sport.

I am very excited to bring a new initiative to light this term called Female Athletes Ignite. A group of female student athletes inspired to learn more about the mental aspects of sport and how we can empower other young women to reap the benefits sport provides. Nearly 50% of all young women stop playing sport by age 17. 60% of girls aged 15-19 report being extremely or very concerned with their ability to cope with stress. We know that sport can provide many benefits to our physical health but more importantly to our mental health and wellbeing. The aim of this group is to empower young female athletes to understand how sport can improve their mental wellbeing and use their voice to empower others to stay involved in sport.

The 7 week program will commence in term 1.

Maroondah City Council Youth Services are running a fortnightly group for LGBTIQA+ young people aged 10-13 called MY Pride.
