A Message from Parents & Friends

Hi Everyone,

And just like that, the summer holidays are over - how quick did they go?! We hope that you had a great break. We would like to extend a big welcome to our new families joining our community this year - you have certainly picked a great year to join our school. We have lots of exciting events and fundraisers planned and we would love to see you at our meetings. To keep up to date with our events, please join the Parents & Friends Facebook group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1711670309087291/

For the full list of events, please see the next page of this newsletter.

What is our fundraising going towards?

We have been working with the Leadership Team and School Council to decide on where we will be investing our fundraising funds. There has been lots of discussion as there are many possibilities, but we have all agreed we would like to upgrade our sporting facilities, which includes gym improvements and adding extra sporting facilities to the school.

Our big fundraiser for this year is our school Fete, which is only 8 weeks away! There’s plenty happening - here’s a bit more information about fundraising in Term 1.

2022 AGPS Fete - Saturday 2nd April

It’s only 8 weeks until our big fundraiser of the year - the school fete. Due to Covid, our last fete was cancelled, so we’re really looking forward to this one. A group of hardworking parents are busy chipping away at all the tasks that need to happen in order to make this whole community event as successful as our 2018 fete. We have lots of exciting plans in the pipeline and we know that the children look forward to this event. We even have Lightning McQueen stopping by! There will be games run by Grades, Devonshire Tea, rides, entertainment and lots of delicious food to name a few.

We will be sending information home next week, with details on how you can pre-purchase wristbands for the amusement rides, purchase showbags, donations we need and how you can volunteer. Haley Ballingall has been busy working hard on scheduling volunteer spots on all the stalls and we will be making the online sign up live next week. For those new to this, the best slots go first!

As always, we can’t make this event happen without the support of our wonderful school community, so we hope that you will join us for this wonderful day. If you would like to join the fete committee to help out with the organisation, our facebook group is here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/272588491396919

Chocolate drive for the fete w/c 14th March

We will be holding a chocolate bar drive (some of you may remember we did this before) for large blocks of chocolate (you know the ones that are 100g or above). David has agreed that the class that collects the most chocolate will be given a movie afternoon and some freshly popped popcorn (we have a new machine that made its debut at the Christmas Fun Day) as a thank you.

Sponsorship/ donations -  If you have a business or work for a business that may wish to become a sponsor or donate a prize to our spinning wheel, please let the office/ David know.

Bunnings BBQ - Sunday 27th February

We received late notification that we have been given a slot to fundraise at Altona North Bunnings. It’s a big day of cooking and serving in a covid safe way. We are currently seeking volunteers (see the link below) to take on a shift, support the school and meet some of our local community.

Special Lunch - Subway - Thursday 10th March

We are organising a special lunch from Subway on Thursday 10th March. We will be sending order forms home in the next week.

Icy Poles

We will commence selling icy poles (lemonade ones) from Friday 11th February. These will be sold for $1.50 each, every Friday for all of TERM 1.

Volunteering

Volunteering is a great way to get involved, meet new people and give back. If you would like to volunteer for any of the events (except the fete as this has a whole online sign up dedicated to it), please use this link to see what’s available. This online platform will take your details and send you a reminder about your upcoming volunteer time. We’re currently seeking volunteers for Bunnings BBQ, Subway and Icy Poles.

We thank you once again for your continued fundraising and volunteer support and we can’t wait to update you on all the progress with our fundraising throughout the year.
