Message From Our

Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to the 2022 school year.

It’s was lovely to hear the familiar noise of the classroom and see how quickly the children have engaged in their learning. The new school year brings some nervousness and lots of excitement and it was lovely to hear all the holidays stories and watch everyone gather with old and new friends last Monday. There is always something very special about this day and as a Principal and someone who has had many ‘first days back’ I always feel a great privilege to be part of the excitement of families sending their children off for the new school year. I would like to extend a warm welcome to our twenty-seven new Foundation students. We hope they will quickly feel part of our school community. I would also like to welcome two new staff, Melissa Cassetta and Tayla Corbo and many new families. Welcome to Sacred Heart. We look forward to getting to know you all better and welcoming you into this special learning community.

On the return to school, all the children were met with comfortable, engaging and vibrant learning spaces to help them quickly feel at home and ready for a new year of learning. Thank you to all staff who have spent lots of time over the past few weeks ensuring the learning spaces were inviting and ready for the children’s return.

On Friday, Year 6s will be commissioned as School Leaders 2022.  They have received their Team Leadership badges and are very excited about the important role they are about to commence. One of these roles is helping their buddies settle into our school and they have already been magnificent!

I would like to congratulate Dom Poppa on his appointment as Assistant Principal. Dom brings to the role a wealth of experience, a great passion for learning and teaching and we look forward to all that Dom will bring to the role throughout the year. Congratulations also to Debbie Turvey who commences in her Leadership role as Religious Education Leader. Debbie will also continue as Learning Diversity Leader.

Drop Off and Pick up times can be very busy times and it is important that they are managed safely. I ask all families to read and be familiar with the important safety reminders that are included in our newsletter. Other important information can be found on our website. Our fortnightly newsletter is a great way to stay up to date with things that are happening at school. Your child’s teacher will provide a Unit Bulletin at the beginning of each term with information specific to them. However, if at any time you are not sure about any school procedures please do not hesitate to contact us.

It was very exciting to see that work has commenced on our Performing Art Centre. The construction site is cordoned off until the competition of the build. Children may still use Hunter St but the entrance has been moved to the west.

To ensure the safety of the Sacred Heart community we will continue to follow vital COVID Safe steps and assess the risk before holding any school activities during the first four weeks of term. At this stage we are unable to have school events, however we are hoping to have our Opening School Mass and other special Term 1 happenings later in the term. We will keep families informed with date changes etc. It is also necessary to limit onsite visitors. Staff are available to greet children at the front of the school and walk them to their classrooms if needed. If you wish to contact your classroom teachers please email them or phone the school during office hours.

Again – welcome to 2022. I hope as the year unfolds it provides many special memories, successes and growth for children, families, staff and the Sacred Heart community.

May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
