A Fun Way to Find Out About Physics

By Ben Sinclair - Year 10

The three-day UQ Junior Physics Odyssey was surprisingly fun. I expected to be bored to death with hours of lectures, but although there were lectures, they were entertaining due to the topics. Such topics included dark matter, quantum physics, special relativity and classic physics. The lectures, given as if we were first-year uni students, were often overwhelming. But there were fun and entertaining things to see such as liquid nitrogen, a fire tornado and a massive Tesla coil. There were also experiments and lots more but if I included everything here it would ruin the experience. I highly recommend this course; it   develops your understanding of physics greatly!

The Science of Slime

Our Year 7s have been investigating the different properties of each of the three states of matter. This week, in  a practical lesson, the students produced slime, which shows the consistency of a solid but the fluidity of a liquid. The boys pictured below, Hayden, Mawson and Jett, were among those in the class who especially enjoyed this investigation. When tasked with determining whether slime is a solid or a liquid they concluded that it's "snot" either!
