VCE Agriculture & Horticulture

The VCE Agriculture and Horticulture class have been learning about Australia's export commodities this week. Courtney from MLA (Meat and Livestock Australia) gave a fantastic presentation on our main exports and where they go, consumer trends, what MLA does, issues that affect production and trade, traceability in the red meat industry, employment opportunities with MLA and sustainability goals in the industry. 

 

Did you know that the red meat industry in Australia has reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 53% since 2005? They have done this through better genetics but mainly through helping farmers improve their carbon sequestration ability by planting more deep-rooted perennial pasture species.
