Instructional Model

Staff have been working to refine the Instructional Model to support student learning in single and double sessions.  Our Instructional Model supports our teachers and students in developing clear expectations for the learning in each session and includes time for explicit teaching of new concepts, time for students to demonstrate and apply these skills, an opportunity to reflect on the learning in each session and to find out how it will link to the next lesson.  It has been pleasing to see students settling into classes and completing their work. There have been lots of positive chronicles for students who are working hard and engaging in their learning.

Organisation for Class

It has been terrific to see our students getting organised and prepared for their learning. Students have been turning up to class with their binders, planners, laptops and pencil cases and this is setting a great tone for learning in the classroom. Our year 7 students and their families have been amazing in getting this all organised.

Literacy & Numeracy

The timetable for our literacy and numeracy support programs is underway.  Our tutors are meeting with eligible students to get to know them and to group them appropriately.  You will be notified by letter if your child is eligible for additional tutoring support.

eLearning

This week students in Year 7 were provided with their laptop by GSSC as part of our work in diversifying the delivery of educational outcomes for all our students. Laptops at GSSC allow our students access to programs that will help them complete their school work in different ways, communicate with their teachers and collaborate with other students. The Year 7's listened to a presentation from one of the school’s eLearning team members about how they will use them in class, being respectful and responsible in their use of the laptops and some habits we want to build to help support their learning. These are:

  • Bringing their laptop to every class
  • Charging their laptop at home every night
  • Whenever they start a new file, save it first!
  • Checking Teams and Compass every day
  • Using their laptop for learning in all their classes, not as a distraction.

We hope that we can build these habits with our new students with the support of parents/guardians. The students are very excited to have these devices in their hands and to use them in their learning.
