Team Vic – Netball Announcement

A huge congratulations goes to Sophie and Sarah Elmes for being selected for Team Vic 2021.

After a heavily interrupted trial process that featured three separate rounds of trials that spanned across the whole year. The first round saw 1500 attendees try out across the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western regions of Victoria. A final squad of 12 members was chosen on December 1st where Sophie and Sarah were both selected in the 12 and under Team Vic squad. Both have shown perseverance and persistence to be awarded a position in Team Vic over the many trials which featured many keen selectors watching on from State and the Victorian Netball League.

Sarah is a versatile attacking player who featured in both GA and GS positions in the side. A tall and accurate shooter who is a hard match for opponents. Down the other end of the court is her sister Sophie, who is an agile intercepting defender that causes headaches for opposition shooters. My guess is that the two have had many back-yard battles in said positions which is sure to have bolstered their skill sets in the sport. Both Sarah and Sophie were going to feature in MGC Year 7 netball side this year before COVID struck early in term 3. A huge effort to the both of you and good luck with your netball in the future!

Year 7 Dodgeball Competition – Friday 3rd December

Finally, last Friday in the gym at MGC our students were able to have a return to sport in the form of dodgeball. Traditionally ran over wellbeing classes in  Term 3, the one day completion built an environment fostered on team work, sportspersonship and tactics. All 9 Year 7 classes competed in a round style competition during Periods 2 & 3. Scores were recorded at the end of each round and a finals series was determined for Period 4.

The story was set for Melba 2 who entered the finals series in an elimination final. After winning this, they proceeded to the preliminary final against an undefeated Maris 2. A fierce contest that ran right down to the wire and Melba was able to win by a head count with more players on the court due to some fantastic shooting in the ring. On the other side of the finals fixture, was Chisholm 1 who, after a shaky start in the early rounds, found some form to win through to the preliminary final themselves by knockout of cones. Chisholm 1 came up against their allies, Chisholm 2. Chisholm 1 managed to win by knockout of cones once again. An intermission took place after this with Sport Captains competing against the teachers before the big dance. The teachers lasted a whole 2 minutes with a last dash effort from Mr. Bond, but unfortunately came up short.

The grand final then took place with 7 other classes watching from the stands. An electric atmosphere with chants coming from the Melba and Chisholm camps on the side. At the end of the 15 minutes, Melba 2 won the completion by a headcount of players. Winning the inaugural Tellefson Cup.

Congratualtions Melba 2!
